Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a new function, bringing together Operational & Resilience Risk (ORR) and parts of Risk Strategy and Macroeconomic Risk. It is a combined Risk Stewardship and Oversight sub-function within Global Risk and Compliance which aims at supporting the integration of the Group Framework and Appetite Management and providing broad oversight of our Non-Financial Risk Taxonomy. Our purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and is in control of its non-financial risk position, and we create robust governance, processes and procedures that ensure effective management of the function.


Senior Project Manager to plan, mobilise and direct IRR Risk projects of high complexity and scale from project definition to closure. They are responsible for the end-to-end planning and delivery of one or more projects proactively balancing scope, schedule, budget, risks, team, outcomes and benefits. Projects can be standalone or form part of a programme. They are responsible for deploying the HSBC Change Framework within their project. They work closely with the Programme Manager to ensure alignment of their project with the wider change portfolio. They will often play a people / team management role within the projects they work on and have line or assignment management responsibility for one or more resources (people management, performance management, resource management and professional development).


The IRR Programme has defined as an outcome the enablement of a “Optimised risk management, monitoring and assurance of the control environment in order govern delivery of the design principles and outcomes", with a specific objective to deliver an “Uplift in assurance approach to provide timely and transparent insights into the control environment for Financial and Regulatory Reporting Risk".


The role holder will work in Risk and Compliance in the IRR Risk Stewardship & Assurance programme team which is responsible leading & directing the Risk Stewardship & Assurance programme to deliver the programme outcomes withing the agreed timelines.



What you’ll do


  • Plans effectively around delivery constraints and optimises the plan to maximise benefits and minimise risk. Develops the plan within constraints, considering the delivery approach, key milestones and dependencies within the plan, requirements and scope, effort and resources, budgets, and quality
  • Ensures the baselined scope, requirements, benefits, schedule, and budget are managed as outlined in the HSBC Change Frameworks. Identifies and intervenes where there is slippage and variance from plan
  • Plans and analyses costs, tracking operating and capital spend, and tracks reporting to financial business case commitments
  • Oversees the tracking of project risk, issues, and dependencies to assess the impact on the benefit realisation for the project and takes action to minimise impact, actively challenging and removing obstacles
  • Influences and collaborates with stakeholder and delivery partners to drive the right project outcomes. Represents the project team at discussions regarding project prioritisation and to create buy-in for risk mitigation and contingency plan
  • Obtains sponsor and stakeholder buy in to plans, key commitments and changes against baseline as they arise
  • Obtains sponsor and stakeholder sign-off for deliverables, formally closes project, assesses stakeholder satisfaction, and captures feedback. Captures key learns from each project and feeds back into methodologies and best practice
  • Articulates to stakeholders the targeted benefits and takes joint responsibility for benefits realisation


What you need to have to succeed in this role


  • Proven understanding of delivery methodologies and best practice techniques
  • Understanding of how change drives benefits for customers and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitors etc.
  • Proven ability to work across regions whilst maintaining a global perspective
  • Demonstration of commerciality with strong financial acumen
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors
  • Delivery of large-scale complex projects at pace, developing high performing interchanging teams to support delivery at each stage
  • Proven implementation, change management and benefits realisation experience


Nice to have 


  • Agile (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban etc.) - Desirable
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) - Desirable
