Validation Laboratory Manager

Your responsibilities

  • Lead, guide and develop teams of validation engineers and technicians in the evaluation, implementation and execution of Validation Tests for Automotive power electronics, electronics and some drive module assembly products.
  • Lead in development of new technology test capability and processes.
  • Lead in problem solving of validation test issue relating to test setup and equipment.
  • Develop and grow the team competency to a high performing organization.
  • Plan and control budget.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the validation laboratory ensuring safety of personnel and other EHS requirements
  • Build laboratory capabilities including building infrastructure and test benches necessary for the validation of eMotors, inverters and whole iDM’s (integrated Drive Modules)
  • Develop and execute plans for components and systems testing according to automotive standards and customer requirements (e.g. DV/PV, environmental, mechanical, electrical, durability testing)
  • Ensure proper planning and scheduling of preventing maintenance as well as calibration activities of test benches and other instrumentations
  • Oversee laboratory infrastructure and facility maintenance, including HVAC systems, compressed air installation and electrical systems
  • Collaborate with facility management and external contractors for infrastructure upgrades, repairs and utilities management
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for lab efficiency, quality and equipment utilization. Utilize tools as Power BI for visualization
  • Manage all validation programs
  • Manage projects in planning, development, and test execution in validation laboratory.
  • Plan and consolidate lab capital equipment procurement and installation
  • Understanding of facility operations
  • Develop an open and collaborative team culture and ensure global strong cooperation with our engineering teams at other technical centers and plants globally
  • Work closely with all other engineering and non-engineering functions e.g., Global Supply Management, Quality, Launch Management, Project Management, etc. to ensure teams are well connected and driving towards safe and flawless launch of our products.
  • Prepare and present high-level validation program status and plans for organizational development to senior management, including Global Validation Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Report to and participate in global staff initiatives for Validation
  • Improve lab test process to balance Validation Quality and Cost, continually execute Validation Cost Modeling actions to reduce cost.
  • Support new business plans by active involvement in cost, capability & capacity study by identifying new technology and development of test methods
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing down times, and data-base decision making process
  • Promote and implement Lean principles, 8D methodologies in problem solving and lessons learned from other locations
  • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the validation process.
  • Ensure teams are using lessons learned from all validation programs globally.
  • Manage and administer quality activities to ensure compliance to IATF 16949 / ISO 17025.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and best practices are followed, documented, and followed by Local Validation Engineering. Provides input if necessary.
  • Meets Department Cost and Quality objectives.

Our requirements

  • Master degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience in preferably in validation or design engineering within the automotive or related industry
  • Proven experience in leading technical organizations for at least 3 years
  • Proven experience in working within global organizations
  • Experienced in budget and resource planning / control
  • Excellent team and project management skills
  • Strong ability to assess and mitigate product and organizational risks
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Coaching teams to high performance
  • Fluency in English is required. German/French would be an advantage
  • Travel is required, at the initial stage for extended period of time. Then, up to 15% of the time
  • Laboratory and team management experience
  • Experience in Test and Validation of complex system (Software and Hardware)
  • Knowledge of Programming in C/C++, LabView, TestStand, and LabWindows
  • Power electronics knowledge
  • Experience working in automotive
  • Familiarity with industry standards and testing protocols for automotive components
  • Experienced in Excel VBA macro development
  • Operations and implementation of lean operating principles

Recruitment process

  • CV Review - Your application and CV will be reviewed to assess your qualifications and experience in relation to the role requirements.
  • Phone Interview (approximately 30 minutes) - This initial conversation is designed to discuss your background, expectations, and answer any preliminary questions.
  • Technical Interview(s) (1 to 1.5 hours, one or two rounds) - Conducted in English with the manager and an additional team member, this stage focuses on evaluating your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. The interview can be held via Teams or at our office.
  • Final Interview (45 minutes) - A meeting with a representative from the HR department to ensure alignment with our company culture and discuss the next steps. This interview might also take place via Teams or at our office.
