Trade Compliance – Customs Valuation Manager (f/m/x)

This position will focus on the accurate valuation of goods for customs purposes, ensuring Mars complies with customs laws by appropriately determining the value of imported and exported products, allowing correct calculation of duties and taxes, while minimizing risks of audit/penalties.   The incumbent is expected to lead strategies to correctly assess statutory deductions and additions (royalties, commissions, etc) across Mars globally; to have expert knowledge in both financial procedures as well as the difference between Customs vs Tax valuation strategies. The incumbent will lead, create, implement and measure valuation continuous improvement programs globally.   This position will closely partner and influence Sr. Leaders within Finance, Tax and Accounting functions to proactively identify potential changes to customs valuation and implement applicable adjustments with stakeholders.   Strong skills in process management, auditing, finance/accounting, customs valuation are necessary.

What would be your key responsibilities?

• Develops programs to create efficiency in delivering compliant customs valuation in support of legal and ethical standards of the organization.
• Develops and implement procedures, including strong Internal controls, documents standards, as well as develops repository mechanisms for Customs valuation methodologies, determining appropriate customs valuation including statutory additions (Royalties, Commissions, management, service fees, etc.) across Mars globally.
• Proactively provides customs valuation advice and strategies, investigates concerns and verifies deficiencies are corrected for strategic change plans.
• Perform Customs Valuation periodic audits in key geographies, documents areas of improvement, design, and lead execution of corrective actions to maintain compliance standards. Expand continuous improvement practices and innovation strategies to streamline customs valuation processes.
• Accountable for communicating and staying informed of changes to regulations and industry guidance that impact the companys valuation compliance program.
• Liaises with Regional Compliance managers, Finance, Tax, Legal, and Accounting, to drive continuous compliance improvements.
• Responds to Customs Valuation audits from government authorities as needed and drives risk mitigation strategies for future audits.
• Creates and develops strategic projects as needed to Improve KPIs, hold data, drive efficient trade operations compliantly and accurately to business stakeholders, In support of the core objectives of the Mars Trade Compliance team.
• Partners with and work closely with other departments, including but not limited to Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Finance to ensure program execution to achieve business goals within internal and external compliance requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

• Minimum 10 years progressive experience in complex CPG, legal, or consulting environments.
• Degree in Finance, Tax, International Finance, and/or Significant Customs Valuation Operational expertise required.
• Food manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience in Mars Financial Operations would be a great asset.
• Specialized, advanced knowledge in trade and customs compliance regulations required to execute Customs Valuation or recent Valuation education, Risk Mitigation, Project Management, and Expert Communications skills.
• Fluent communication in English and Polish.
