Your responsibilities

This incumbent will be responsible for the following key areas: Expert knowledge of & ability to drive compliant control processes related to the laws and regulations governing trade compliance business activity globally including valuation, classification, ruling requests, interpretation and application of customs law, both import and export, and other trade and customs compliance risk assessments including cost avoidance/duty deferral programs, audits, and tariff classification.

This position is expected to have strong people leadership and process/data management skills. This position will lead a regional team of compliance associates and will be accountable for ongoing development of their associates. Must be able to lead high value and volume change projects related to customs/trade compliance, influence without authority and deliver results on time and on budget.

•Develops programs to create efficiency in delivering required trade operations In support of legal and ethical standards of the organization.

•Leads team activities through managing resourcing, status reporting, resolving issues, identifying project risks and accountability for deliverables across multiple functional organizations globally.

•Manages the the global Trade Compliance Center of Excellence, provides mentoring and coaching, work to enhance engagement, and ensures ongoing development in accordance with the associate concept.

•Proactively provides import/export compliance advice, investigates concerns and verifies deficiencies are corrected for strategic change plans.

•Maintains current knowledge of import/export laws, regulations, and industry guidance that impact the companys compliance program.

•Liaises with Regional Compliance managers to drive continuous compliance Improvements.

•Monitors evolution of customs and trade compliance laws to anticipate required change to business practices and Identify opportunities to utilize centralized processes for efficiency.

•Creates and develops strategic projects as needed to Improve KPIs, hold data, drive efficient trade operations compliantly and accurately to business stakeholders, In support of the core objectives of the TC COE.

•Partners with and work closely with other departments, including but not limited to Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Finance to ensure program execution to achieve business goals within internal and external compliance requirements.

•Responsible for Global COE team performance, risk management, escalation, and Issue resolution.

Our requirements

  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in complex CPG, legal, or consulting environments; food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • University degree in Law / International Trade / Trade Compliance, Supply Chain / International Logistics / International Studies or related discipline.
  • Specialized, advanced knowledge in trade and customs compliance regulations required to execute Customs Operations, Risk Mitigation, Project Management, and Centralized Operations Leadership.
  • Strong background in data management, KPI tracking and process optimization.
  • Experience in establishing and standardizing trade compliance function in the organization would be a great benefit.
  • Proven track record leading teams to implement successful programs of change, drive to deadline completion and ensure robust compliance with regional trade and customs requirements.
  • Strong people leadership skills, experience managing direct reports in a matrixed organization.
  • Expert decision-making capabilities and advanced trade compliance knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively operate in a multi-cultural organization and across all levels of regional and global business, incl. senior management.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, ability to coordinate, influence and lead without authority in structured and disciplined manner.
  • Strong program and project management skills.
  • Highly organized, can take ambiguous situations and make sense out of them for others.
  • Fluent in English both verbal and in writing.

This position will drive performance, training, and process development/execution of the Trade Compliance Center of Excellence strategy. The incumbent is expected to lead and continuously develop a team of customs technical experts; create, implement, and measure continuous improvement programs and strategies to drive enhanced Trade/Customs Compliance risk mitigation, efficiency through centralization of data, and cost avoidance. This position will Influence Sr. Leaders in Legal, Supply, and Commercial to drive compliance. Strong skills in process management, Trade Compliance functional technical skills (especially project management, Free Trade Agreement due diligence, and Tariff classification processes) are necessary.
