About the job


Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Google Cloud Databases is a collection of Cloud database offerings that enables customers to build and deploy faster, deliver transformative applications, and maintain portability and control of data.

You will be responsible for working with engineering and product management to document new features for Cloud SQL. Youll also update the docs to address customer feedback and internal bug reports. Youll have access to a larger team of writers in the Cloud iX organization, with opportunities to collaborate around tools, process, and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Write technical documentation for developers and cloud architects building solutions for their own private Google Cloud.
  • Produce and curate content helping customers.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Work with a global team of engineers, product teams, content strategists, User Experience (UX) researchers and other technical writers to identify the critical user journeys and create information architectures that help customers through those journeys.


Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 4 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).
  • Experience within the technology market


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience researching and writing documentation for DevOps practitioners or developers (Application Programming Interface (APIs), a set of platform-specific building tools for developers (SDKs), web technologies).
  • Experience with spreadsheets, databases, SQL, and data analysis.
  • Ability to read and understand source code written in Java, C++, Python or JavaScript
