About the project

YOUR ROLE

Hands-on Technical Lead to oversee and support our database environments. This mid-level role combines operational excellence with technical leadership, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in database and server administration, while also collaborating with architecture and engineering teams to align infrastructure with business needs.

Your responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

• Act as the technical point of contact for global database services

• Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for complex infrastructure issues.

• Collaborate with architecture, application management, and engineering teams to align infrastructure with business needs.

• Contribute to the development of standards, procedures, and automation strategies.

Database Administration Coordination (main focus, but not limited to SQL Server ):

• Develop and maintain processes to ensure proper install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances (2016/2019/2022).

• Monitor and optimize Imperial database environments for performance, indexing, and query execution.

• Manage operational definition of backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.

Local Windows Servers area:

• Lead services for Windows Server environments including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

• Lead definition and oversee global system updates, patching, and performance tuning.

• Maintain services to ensure documentation and configuration baselines.

• Support virtualization platforms (Hyper-V or VMware).

Operational Coordination:

• Lead technical resolution of database management services.

• Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

• Drive automation and scripting initiatives (PowerShell preferred).

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure operations.

Our requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience in database and Windows service management
  • Strong knowledge of T-SQL, SSMS, and SQL Server Agent.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows networking.
  • Familiarity with backup tools (e.g., Veeam, native SQL backups).
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and change management.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Optional

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS).
  • Exposure to monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Azure Monitor).
  • Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) setups.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
