About the project

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team and support global cloud migration projects within the Lufthansa Group. In this role, you will manage cloud environments (primarily Microsoft Azure), Linux systems, and Kubernetes orchestration. Your responsibilities will include developing automation for cutting-edge systems, performing setup, maintenance, hardening, and troubleshooting of cloud-based infrastructure.

You will work in an Agile environment, collaborating with multinational project teams worldwide and contributing to digitalization initiatives across the Lufthansa Group.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and implement automation using Terraform, Ansible, Puppet.
  • Develop scripts in Python, Go, Shell for automation and API integration.
  • Administer Linux systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL), including performance tuning, hardening (CIS benchmarks), and SELinux policy management.
  • Configure and optimize NGINX/Apache servers, SSL/TLS, and load balancers (HAProxy, Envoy).
  • Manage networking and security: TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS protocols; tools like tcpdump, Wireshark; firewall and certificate management.
  • Operate Kubernetes clusters, Helm charts, GitOps workflows, Service Mesh (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Manage resources in Microsoft Azure (ARM templates, Terraform), monitoring with Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana.
  • Collaborate with application teams to ensure workload stability and performance.

Our requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud technologies and/or Linux-based systems.
  • Experience with system hardening (SELinux, CIS benchmarks) and storage management (LVM, XFS, ext4).
  • Proficiency in scripting using Python, Go, or Shell.
  • Practical experience with Terraform (modular design, state management), Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/S, DNS, TLS, gRPC).
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as tcpdump, Wireshark, iperf, nmap.
  • Experience with load balancers and proxies (HAProxy, NGINX, Envoy).
  • Skills in firewall and certificate management (iptables, nftables).
  • Hands-on expertise in Kubernetes operations, traffic management, mTLS, RBAC, and cloud-native security.
  • Experience with Azure Resource Manager, Managed Identities, and Key Vault.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Creativity, accountability, teamwork skills, and willingness to continuously learn.
  • Willingness to come to our office in Gdańsk two days a week or relocate to Trójmiasto

Optional

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD).
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Operations Suite.
  • Incident response and root cause analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of performance benchmarking tools (sysbench, fio).
  • Experience in disaster recovery, backup strategies, and security compliance.
  • Collaboration with development teams on performance and stability topics.
