About the project

In this role, you will collaborate closely with partner teams like Dataplex and Dataproc. As a member of our small and early-stage team, you will have excellent learning and growth opportunities. Youll be a part of the BigQuery team, where youll be empowered to design, implement, launch and land large-scale, impactful projects with the necessary support and guidance, and a large pipeline of enterprise customers waiting to use your features. Youll be instrumental in shaping the architecture and future of BigQuerys metadata management capabilities. You will be focused around improving Federation support for BigLake. This includes support for major strategic partners such as Salesforce, open source standards such as the Iceberg Rest Catalog.

Your responsibilities

  • Work with storage, networking, and analytic engines leads to creating a technical roadmap for cross cloud analytics. Lead execution, including delivering some aspects personally.
  • Work with product managers to create a comprehensive product that aligns to the roadmap.
  • Model technical leadership for the broader BigLake organization.
  • Help develop a culture of operational excellence within the team.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.

Our requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including: Java, C/C++ or Python.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Optional

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with open source systems like Apache Iceberg, Spark, etc.
  • Experience working with partners such as SAP, Salesforce.
