Shuttle is Box’s enterprise migration solution. Its mission is to help organizations securely and efficiently move their content from legacy systems and third-party storage providers into Box. This is critical for customer adoption, as smooth migration is often the first step to unlocking value from Box’s platform. Shuttle ensures migrations are reliable, scalable, and maintain fidelity of files, metadata, and permissions. 

Candidate Profile

• Essential Skills: 
• Strong proficiency in Python, including debugging and profiling. 
• Broad software engineering expertise across multiple languages and paradigms. 
• Experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes, and cloud environments. 
• Ability to debug complex system-level issues (threading, networking, VM behavior). 
• Strong architectural thinking, ensuring consistency across services. 
• Valuable Skills: 
• Node.js and JavaScript experience, especially with adapters and integrations. 
• Exposure to frontend development patterns (not required but helpful). 
• Familiarity with enterprise migrations or large-scale content management. 
• Mindset: 
• Systems thinker who can see both deep technical detail and cross-service architectural alignment. 
• Opinionated yet collaborative, able to challenge peers respectfully. 
• Proactive ownership and drive to ensure solutions are complete and correct. 
• Diplomatic leadership style that mentors and uplifts senior engineers while maintaining technical authority.

,[Own architectural consistency and validate significant technical decisions across Shuttle’s services., Design and guide the evolution of critical systems, including the migration adapters and backend microservices., Drive resolution of complex system-level problems, whether in Kubernetes orchestration, cloud VMs, or network behavior., Ensure fixes address root causes, not just symptoms., Provide technical mentorship and oversight to senior and mid-level engineers., Collaborate with other Box teams on integrations (Box Consulting, Archive, Metadata initiatives and most likely File System and API in the future)., Contribute to roadmap planning by aligning Shuttle’s architecture with Box’s broader goals, especially around metadata and AI.
