About the job

We are currently seeking an innovative and dedicated individual to join our Middle Tier Technical Support team as a Systems Technical Support Engineer. In this role, you will provide technical support for the installation, configuration, and deployment of SAS software running on Java Application Servers. Our team provides people the opportunity to become a product specialist and be part of a collaborative team with a supportive team spirit!

As a Middle Tier Senior Technical Support Engineer, you will:

  1. Provide first and second level support for external and internal customers
  2. Prioritize, diagnose, and manage customer-reported problems including writing thorough, detailed problem descriptions
  3. Prepare and review written documentation
  4. Participate in installations of SAS software which utilize third-party application servers
  5. Record and manage confirmed software bugs
  6. Provide product feedback to development and marketing
  7. Build technical relationships with appropriate groups and individuals in development and with third-party Java Runtime and application server providers
  8. Report and track feature requests and problems with third-party vendors
  9. Provide both formal and informal training to Technical Support staff on various application server topics
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

  1. Bachelors degree in business, computer science, mathematics, or a related business or quantitative field
  2. Proven experience working in the middleware sector, e.g. Tomcat, Apache, WebSphere, etc.
  3. 5 or more years of experience programming, testing, software consulting, technical support, or supporting complex software applications
  4. Work experience with architecture and deployment of enterprise-class Java web applications
  5. Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systems

  7. An equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Preferred qualifications

  1. Experience programming in Java
  2. Working knowledge of SAS Visual Analytics
  3. Working knowledge of SAS 9 Business Intelligence Platform client/server n-tier architecture or similar architecture
  4. Experience writing and debugging script files on Windows and UNIX
  5. Knowledge of file system security
  6. Knowledge of TCP/IP and networks
  7. Familiarity with advanced web technologies including web authentication, DAV, SSL, web services, and SOAP
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  9. Ability to work with people of varied technical backgrounds
  10. Ability to handle deadlines in a multitasking environment
  11. Ability to resolve user questions through a combination of independent study, investigative programming, and collaborative efforts with team members
  12. Previous technical support experience
  13. Ability to travel as needed
