Senior SWIFT Specialist – Vilnius, Lithuania
Western Union is seeking a highly skilled Senior SWIFT Messaging Technology Engineer to manage and evolve our global SWIFT messaging infrastructure. This role is critical in ensuring the security, performance, and scalability of SWIFT systems that enable international payments, funds transfer, and compliance with global banking standards.

Role Responsibilities
- Manage and support SWIFT messaging infrastructure, including system connections, jobs, queries, and requests.
- Oversee platform management and operational changes to ensure secure, efficient, and uninterrupted messaging services.
- Define, design, and implement multi‑tier distributed systems supporting SWIFT and related financial applications.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across global development centers to deliver solutions aligned with business and compliance requirements.
- Conduct thorough code reviews, estimate engineering effort, and plan implementations with cross‑functional impacts.
- Share responsibility for engineering support, releases, and incident management.
- Apply Agile practices daily, maintaining high test coverage and delivering continuous improvements in performance, quality, and reliability.
- Develop domain expertise in financial messaging and apply it to solving operational and technical challenges.
Role Requirements
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Vilnius, Lithuania if currently based abroad.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years of professional experience, or Master’s with 4+ years of experience.
- Proven expertise in SWIFT systems (must‑have).
- Strong proficiency in Linux environments, including commands, infrastructure, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, OOP, and design principles.
- Demonstrated experience in modern programming languages (Java, C++, etc.) and design patterns.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to thrive in fast‑paced, iterative environments.
- Experience with unit testing and mocking frameworks.
Nice to Have
- Banking or financial services background, with exposure to SWIFT integration in enterprise platforms.
- Experience with web technologies (Java/J2EE, XML, JSON, Web Services, Node.js, JavaScript).
- Knowledge of RDBMS and data ingestion; NoSQL experience a plus.
- Familiarity with Agile, TDD, and CI/CD practices.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑performance, large‑scale systems in financial services.
Salary
Monthly gross base salary range: €3,117 – €6,075. Eligible for annual variable target incentive, which may include long‑term incentives, if eligible.
