Senior Structural Engineer – Bechtel Corporation
Bechtel Corporation, a global engineering and construction company established in 1898, is partnering with Westinghouse Electric Company to deliver Poland’s first AP1000 nuclear power reactors. As the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, we will design the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant and construct the entire facility.
Project Overview
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). This is a unique opportunity to support Poland’s nuclear base and contribute to a sustainable energy future.
Job Summary
The Senior Structural Engineer will support design development of structural engineering designs for the project site by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The role requires collaboration with other structural engineers, designers, and technical disciplines in a team environment.
Major Responsibilities
- Originate and check structural deliverables of high complexity, including specifications, drawings, reports and calculations.
- Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
- Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
- Participate in constructability reviews.
- Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
- Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering (Civil/Structural or equivalent) and 4–6 years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Must be able to live and work in Poland without sponsorship.
- Must be fluent in Polish.
- Must complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
- Experience designing heavy industrial facilities/structures from inception to handover.
- Knowledge of Eurocodes and current codes of practice and design standards.
- Poland Professional Engineering (PE) license for structural and construction specialty.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of procurement and control of bulk materials.
- Ability to independently produce detailed design drawings of complex structural/site systems.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables such as drawings and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
- Ability to issue clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Experience with structural design of port facilities (quay walls, piers, jetties, dolphins, coastal protection).
- Poland Professional Engineering (PE) license in marine hydrotechnical specialty.
- Experience with DLUBAL RFEM.
- Experience with MathCAD.
- Construction field experience.
