Position Description

The Senior Research Scientist will join the enzyme development team, responsible for design, engineering, expression, and purification of enzymes exhibiting desirable activities with applications in life sciences and diagnostics fields, including NGS and PCR. The ideal candidate will have experience in protein engineering, directed evolution, and be familiar with high-throughput enzyme engineering technologies. A strong expertise in designing overexpression DNA construct, and the execution and troubleshooting of protein expression and purification processes will be critical. The person will be working in a cross-functional team and required to support both internal and external (customer defined) projects.

  1. Design, construct, overexpress, and perform screening/selection assays for recombinant proteins.
  2. Participate in protein expression optimization and purification at different scales.
  3. Design and implement new assays for enzyme characterization.
  4. Use directed evolution methods and protein engineering approaches to create novel enzymes or variants.
  5. Initiate research projects and programs to support internal and external customers.
  6. Identify new opportunities and expand capabilities. Initiate and lead product development in developing innovative technologies and products.
  7. Domestic and international travel (up to 10% of time) can be expected.

Position Requirements

  1. Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Enzymology or related field; ideally at least 3 years academic or industry experience.
  2. Extensive experience in protein expression in E. coli and Yeast, purification techniques and analytical methods.
  3. Broad experience and knowledge in molecular biology techniques including PCR, gene assembly and cloning, protein engineering methods such as mutagenesis, fusion protein construction, and variant library generation methods.
  4. In-depth knowledge of enzymes used in molecular biology, especially polymerases and ligases, and molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis.
  5. Familiarity with molecular modelling software.
  6. Working experience with AKTA FPLC systems and knowledge of protein structural biology is a plus.
