Job Description:

As the successful candidate, you will:

1. Understand the owner/user requirements and the project mission.
2. Assist in interpreting the plant PFDs, P&IDs, and plant battery limits and constraints.
3. Coordinate the work of draftspersons and senior draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work.
4. Prepare 3D equipment modeling, layouts and 3D design.
5. Perform conceptual layout work.
6. Check drawings prior to release.
7. Develop design details.
8. Perform design calculations of standard design elements.
9. Perform the design and drafting of mechanical plant models using applicable standards, project technical specifications and enterprise or project procedures.
10. Execute designs following the mechanical and layout design criteria developed specifically for the project as well as the defined regulations, codes, and standards.
11. Apply the design criteria throughout the evolution of the design.
12. Use vendor data, drawings and information to develop and verify the model.
13. Create and maintain check sheets for all equipment as vendor data is received. Back model all changes as required.
14. Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines.
15. Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
16. Provide material quantity takeoffs for estimating purposes or inclusion into bulk commodity purchases and installation contracts.
17. Generate 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project.
18. Prepare design concepts for both internal and client review in conjunction with engineering staff.
19. Produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects, in conjunction with engineering staff.
20. Participate in formal engineering review processes.
21. Conduct operability and maintainability reviews, walkthroughs and HAZOPs.
22. Conduct constructability reviews and HAZOPs.
23. Use model as basis for HAZOPs during the above reviews.
24. Assist with development and monitoring of budgets and schedules.
25. Prepare drawing list and project drawing standards.

You bring to the role:

1. Engineering diploma (N Dip) or equivalent (mechanical).
2. Minimum of five years mechanical design experience.
3. Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPCM environment.
4. Ability to design in a 3D model environment.
5. Detailed design and modeling skills for the plant layout of mechanical equipment.
6. Thorough knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project.
7. Able to plan and supervise the work of others.
8. Understanding of other discipline requirements.
9. Proficient in the use of MicroStation.
10. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
11. Good safety awareness.
12. Able to function in a structured corporate environment.

Desirable:

1. Registration as a professional with the local engineering authorities.
2. Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
