About the project

This role is responsible for managing an advanced fleet of Arch Linux devices that serve as the foundation for high-performance, containerized data modeling applications. The candidate will architect, deploy, and maintain a secure, self-managed OTA (Over-The-Air) update system along with robust container orchestration featuring live context switching and hot swap storage.

Your responsibilities

  • Advanced Arch Linux Administration: Install, configure, and optimize Arch Linux using tools such as pacstrap, systemd, and integration with the AUR.
  • Implement best practices for OS hardening, including configuring firewalls (iptables/nftables) and intrusion detection.
  • Adding, installing and updating Kernel patches including customized patch modules.
  • Container Orchestration & Management: Deploy and manage Docker containers (or equivalent open-source container runtimes) with live context switching and zero-downtime updates.
  • Research and implement a free, open-source fleet management and OTA update system (e.g. by using Ansible, SaltStack, or Kubernetes alternatives tailored for edge deployments) with an integrated dashboard for device management.
  • Filesystem Security & Advanced Cryptography: Deploy and maintain an encrypted root BTRFS filesystem with file-naming encryption (leveraging tools such as fscrypt).
  • Configure system-level cryptographic measures (e.g. by using LUKS for volume encryption, secure boot, and kernel hardening techniques).
  • System Monitoring & Maintenance: Develop and maintain monitoring solutions for proactive maintenance and performance tuning across a distributed fleet.
  • Automate system updates and security patches without external service providers.

Our requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Arch Linux system administration and advanced package management.
  • Expertise in Docker container orchestration and experience with open-source configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, SaltStack).
  • Strong background in cryptographic systems, filesystem encryption (BTRFS with fscrypt), and network security (firewall configuration, SELinux/AppArmor).
  • Proficiency with shell scripting (Bash, Python) and automation techniques.
  • Meticulous: A detail-oriented professional who rigorously follows best practices to ensure system reliability and security.
