We are seeking a skilled Senior GDC Automation Engineer with expertise in cloud-native technologies and distributed systems to join our team.
Overview
In this role, you will design, build, and troubleshoot automation frameworks for the Google Distributed Cloud platform, collaborating with a high-performing engineering team to ensure scalability and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automation solutions for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) components
- Develop robust software using Go (Golang) to enhance Kubernetes operators, controllers, and GDCH CLI functionalities
- Collaborate on infrastructure provisioning with tools like Ansible to enable seamless infrastructure-as-code practices
- Ensure high availability and fault tolerance in distributed system deployments
- Optimize containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to streamline builds, releases, and integrations
- Apply security best practices, including IAM, key management, and the secure software supply chain
- Monitor and troubleshoot networking systems including BGP, VXLAN, and firewalls
- Manage artifact repositories such as Harbor and version control tools like Git-on-Borg
- Write and maintain clear, actionable documentation suitable for air-gapped environments
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in cloud-native technologies, containerization, and distributed systems design
- Expertise in Kubernetes architecture, APIs, operators, and cluster management
- Proficiency in programming with Go (Golang) and familiarity with GDCH frameworks
- Background in Linux systems administration, networking, and security (Ubuntu or Rocky Linux)
- Understanding of block and object storage systems, including solutions like NetApp
- Familiarity with bare metal provisioning tools (e.g., Metal3, Redfish, PXE)
- Competency in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code practices, and build systems such as Bazel
- Capability to troubleshoot multi-cluster setups with GDCH-specific tooling
- Fluent English communication skills at a B2+ level
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services, such as AI/ML, Compute, Networking, and Storage
- Expertise in Istio, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), or Google Cloud Managed Service for Prometheus
- Skills in Python or UNIX shell scripting
