Job Description:

The role

Imagination Technologies is a world-class semiconductor IP company with a rich heritage in graphics and compute platforms for a range of sectors, including automotive.

Our automotive grade IP designs have an inherent need to be supported by a safety-qualifiable software stack in accordance with ISO 26262. For Graphics Processing Units (GPU) this software stack is inherently complex, with a number of software solutions needed in between the end application and GPU hardware (i.e. Firmware, Driver, API, RTOS etc.). Of critical importance is managing the hardware-software interface, and developing a robust and demonstrably safe firmware solution, which underpins the software stack through to API/Application level.

Owing to the development of new and exciting GPU products for the automotive sector, we need to grow the business capability and team in software-safety engineering. To this end, we are seeking an accomplished functional safety software engineer who has extensive experience in the development of safety-orientated analysis, safety requirements, software safety architectures, and safety cases.

You will be responsible for:

  1. GPU software (firmware) safety-oriented analysis in accordance with ISO 26262.
  2. Working with currently defined Safety Plans and associated corporate safety development processes and PLM framework.
  3. Conducting and documenting, with support from the software engineering team, the software-safety orientated analysis and architectural analysis.
  4. Deriving Software Safety Requirements, and their associated verification/test requirements / pass/fail criteria.
  5. Creating and refining the Software Architecture (safety architecture).
  6. Supporting the management and content definition of the Hardware-Software Interface (HSI).
  7. Documenting the scope, synopsis, and content of the Safety Case Report up to the point the safety analysis has been completed.
  8. Recommending process/template improvements.

From time to time you may also:

  1. Work with internal and external auditors to ensure our processes reflect industry good practice.
  2. Develop the strategy and plan to maintain software functional safety management system process certification.
  3. Conduct adjacent functional safety sector reviews and documenting findings/recommendations.
  4. Develop the overarching high-integrity software development strategy to support all IP product portfolio.
  5. Develop and executing safety plans for new product development.
  6. Perform independent confirmation reviews as/when required.

About you

Committed to making your customers, stakeholders and colleagues successful, you’re an excellent communicator, listener and collaborator who builds trusted partnerships by delivering what you say, when you say. You’re curious, solutions orientated and a world-class problem solver who constantly seeks opportunities to innovate and achieve the best possible outcome to the highest imaginable standard.

You will have:

  1. Practitioner experience in ISO 26262:2018, in particular with respect to Part 6.
  2. Experience and ability in conducting safety-oriented software analysis.
  3. The ability to support, manage and define the Hardware-Software Interface specification (HSI Specification).
  4. Deep understanding of V-model, Validation and Verification concepts.
  5. Understanding of Systems Engineering concepts.
  6. A requirements engineering background with experience in associated toolchain e.g. Codebeamer, DOORS, Jama Connect or similar.
  7. Abilities to provide recommendations on process improvement opportunities: safety-analysis process and template updates, toolchain recommendations etc.

You might also have:

  1. Experience in embedded system development.
  2. Experience in MISRA-C.
  3. Experience in ASIL-D qualifiable software development, including MC/DC analysis/coverage, methods and tools.
