We are excited to announce the development of our new Software Development Hub in Warsaw — an important step in our journey of global growth. This initiative marks an important step forward in bringing together top technical talent, optimizing our processes, and shaping the future direction of our organization.

About the Role

The Lead Engineer is a recognized senior engineering authority responsible for advancing enterprise‑scale software and digital product development capabilities, ensuring alignment with overarching platform and architecture strategies. Acting as a bridge between vision and execution, the role drives the adoption of modern engineering practices, tools, and standards, enabling consistent, scalable, and secure delivery of digital solutions across a complex enterprise ecosystem. This is a senior specialist role with process leadership responsibilities, ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating teams and improving processes, even without formal people‑management duties. The position demands deep technical mastery, strategic foresight, and the ability to influence and elevate engineering excellence across teams. The Lead Engineer serves as a trusted engineering expert & advisor to architects, platform owners, and product leaders, shaping enterprise engineering direction while mentoring teams to apply best practices pragmatically.

The Lead Engineer champions modern paradigms such as cloud‑native development, DevSecOps, Developer Experience (DevEx), and platform engineering—accelerating innovation while steering platform modernization initiatives such as CMS transformation and the evolution of other critical enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of software digital product development practices, ensuring alignment with enterprise platform strategies (e.g., CMS Platform evolution, data foundation, integration platforms).
  • Define and maintain engineering guardrails and reusable assets (e.g., Technology Radars, maturity models, playbooks) that make enterprise IT strategy executable in daily product delivery.
  • Partner with Platform Architects and Owners to ensure digital products leverage shared platform capabilities, avoid duplication, and contribute to platform innovation.
  • Drive modernization by embedding practices such as cloud‑native architectures, DevSecOps, DevEx, observability, and automation, ensuring digital products are secure, scalable, and resilient.
  • Mentor and coach engineering teams and leaders, fostering a culture of craftsmanship, autonomy, and continuous improvement in digital product delivery.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert in organizational design and engineering ecosystems, shaping the operating model for agile digital product and platform delivery.
  • Provide strategic insight into emerging technologies and engineering practices, ensuring VELUX’s digital product ecosystem remains competitive, compliant, and future‑ready.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Software Engineering Expertise: Strong background in software product engineering, including architecture, design, and modern development practices.
  • Architectural Alignment: Proven ability to connect product engineering with platform architecture (e.g., CMS, data, integration), ensuring digital products are designed to leverage and strengthen enterprise platforms.
  • Technology Authority: Experience driving adoption of modern practices (cloud‑native, CI/CD, DevSecOps, DevEx, observability, automation) to enable reliable and scalable product delivery.
  • Communication: Strong skills in influencing and aligning architects, platform owners, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Ability to mentor engineers and leaders, shaping engineering culture and scaling best practices.
  • Innovation & Adaptability: Track record of piloting and industrializing emerging technologies in alignment with business priorities.
  • Strategic Mindset: Contributions to strategic frameworks, whitepapers, or governance models demonstrating thought expertise in software product engineering.
