THE TEAM & THE JOB
YouGov has an exciting new Senior Data Scientist role available, working with the YouGov Behavioral, which processes and analyses terabytes of data on a daily basis to help us on our journey to connect data and understand what the world thinks. The team works with some very interesting data.
YouGov Behavioral provides real insights into consumer actions, connecting opinion data from our market-leading panel to a variety of behavioral data sources including Banking & transactions whereby clients can unlock the where, when, and how much behind consumer transactions, online or in-store. Media consumption data which helps clients understand audience viewership across different platforms to monitor streaming behavior, season retention trends and episodic drop-off rates. And finally, online search & social which helps clients monitor every major piece of online and offline marketing for your brand, gauge its performance and optimize your ongoing ad spend. The key sources this role will be working directly with are as follows:
- SVOD (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+) watching history
- Gaming (e.g. Steam)
- Banking transactions
- Browsing History
- YouTube History

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Develop, deliver and operate new data science services and features for YouGov Safe and/or YouGov Signal platforms.
- Use statistical, algorithmic, data mining, and visualization techniques to model complex problems, find opportunities, discover solutions, and deliver actionable business insights.
- Find creative and innovative ways of solving problems and delivering solutions.
- Own your projects based on our data and answer to various market research related questions.
- Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (TECHNICAL & BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES)
We are looking for team members with the following competencies:
- 4+ years proficiency in data science and modelling using Python, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-Learn (and/or other modelling packages), StatsModels (and/or other statistical packages), Git.
- 1+ year proficiency in processing Big Data using PySpark, Apache Airflow, Presto/Athena SQL and regular SQL.
- Experience with Machine Learning, Evaluation, feature engineering, model training, model deployment.
- Strong programming skills - writing clean and efficient code.
- Strong understanding of statistics, statistical modelling techniques and data analysis methods.
- Ask relevant questions and offer thoughtful opinions.
- Worked for at least a year remotely in a global environment.
- Communicate fluently in English.
It would be a plus if you:
- Have experience with AWS or any other cloud provider.
- Have experience with AWS Glue, Athena, MWAA, Lambda, S3 services.
- Have experience with NLP processing, especially LLMs.
- Like entertainment industry, have basic understanding about TV-Shows, Movies, Games, and social media.
