Join an innovative team that supports Westinghouses mission to provide clean energy solutions. The Senior Category Specialist leads category and operational management for assigned commodities, improving total cost, quality, delivery, and reliability to meet organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary relationship owner for suppliers within assigned commodities.
- Manage the segmentation of assigned spend into subcommodity groups to create levers for operational excellence.
- Maintain an overall commodity strategy to meet organizational goals by improving Total Cost.
- Take ownership of TCO while securing supply continuity by identifying and mitigating current and potential risks and opportunities in the commodity strategy.
- Build commodity strategy by supply base right‑sizing and business awards with long term intention.
- Negotiate agreements (LTA) with year‑over‑year improvements in cost, delivery, quality, service, and profitability.
- Review business analysis from PowerBI and other tools to create insights into the drivers of assigned commodity and consider effects on spend projections to use as levers with our supply base.
- Support regular business reviews (SRM) with important and strategic suppliers with teams and senior leadership.
- Create presentations for supplier relationship management reviews, commodity strategies, risk mitigation proposals, 4‑blockers, and supplier/commodity gap analysis.
- Support the plan to deliver annual results against metrics of payment terms, on‑time delivery, productivity, inflation, and other metrics determined by Procurement Leadership.
- Research, track, and communicate industry trends, best practices, applicable indices, and competitive offerings to identify opportunities for innovation, competitive advantage, and increased overall productivity.
- Develop a productive working relationship with peers on other teams: Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Procurement.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree required (preferably MBA or MS in any engineering field).
- Minimum 4 years of procurement experience (preferably within industries with complex engineering, procurement, and construction projects).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in negotiations including RFI, RFP, RFQ, and contract development.
- Well‑developed negotiating, benchmarking, market analysis, competitive intelligence, and procurement projects management skills.
- Experience with vendor management including purchase order issuance, execution, and administration.
- Previous experience analyzing and drawing conclusions from quantitative data.
- Ability to engage at all organizational levels and cultivate high‑quality professional relationships.
- Strong problem‑solving skills along with time‑management, prioritizing, and planning.
- Competence in maintaining long‑term productive relationships with suppliers (SRM).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Access, Project, and Visio.
- ERP system or similar system experience in a global environment is beneficial (SAP & Ariba).
