We are hiring for a global technology organization with strong engineering roots in Poland, bringing together over 1,000 experts across cloud engineering, data platforms, and software development.

The assignment is for one of the world’s most recognizable streaming platforms. The client is currently undergoing a large-scale transformation of its data ecosystem, including a complete rebuild of its data platform architecture. The initiative focuses on scalability, performance, and enabling advanced data-driven capabilities across personalization and decision-making systems.

The role is fully remote and part of a long-term strategic engineering engagement.

Start date: beginning of May (preferred)

Duration: 12 months with potential extension

Senior Backend Engineer (Java, GCP/AWS, Data & Streaming Platforms)

Your responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services in Java supporting subscription-based and commerce-driven platforms
• Build and evolve APIs and backend systems enabling data-driven decision-making and personalization capabilities
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to solve complex, business-critical problems
• Design and develop data pipelines supporting experimentation frameworks, heuristic systems, and machine learning use cases
• Participate in architectural decisions with strong focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability
• Take ownership of end-to-end production services, including observability, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvements
• Contribute to code reviews and promote engineering best practices across distributed teams

Our requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with Java
• Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems)
• Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-based services (AWS or GCP preferred)
• Proven experience building and maintaining high-traffic production systems
• Strong understanding of reliability engineering, observability, and performance optimization in distributed systems
• Experience in designing and consuming APIs and translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Ability to take ownership of solutions from design through production deployment
• Experience working with large-scale distributed architectures (microservices or SOA)
• Familiarity with data pipelines and systems supporting analytics or experimentation platforms
• Experience working in cross-functional teams (Product, Data, Engineering)
• Practical knowledge of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code)
• Experience with gRPC
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., BigQuery, Bigtable)
• Experience integrating CMS platforms
• Exposure to machine learning-based systems or personalization engines
• Experience with experimentation frameworks, heuristic systems, or decision engines
• Interest in AI-native engineering practices (agentic workflows, automation, AI-augmented development)
