We are looking for an experienced Senior Azure Data Platform Engineer to support the development, performance, and security of a modern cloud-based data ecosystem. This role combines deep technical ownership of Azure infrastructure, data platform optimisation, security best practices, and collaboration across architecture and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure & Platform Management

  • Maintain and enhance Azure cloud components such as:
    Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL/MySQL, SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, KeyVault, Private Link/Endpoint, ADLS, PowerBI Gateway, VM-based Linux/Windows servers, EntraID, Azure Monitor, Azure DevOps Agents.
  • Improve performance of data processing workflows and harden the overall Data Platform.
  • Support the Azure Architect in system design, standards creation, and architectural reviews.
  • Contribute to IT strategy, data access patterns, and integration standards.
  • Resolve ongoing issues and incidents following best practices.

Security & Network Protection

  • Ensure Data Platform security using NSGs, Private Link/Endpoint, DNS resolvers and other controls.
  • Monitor threats, analyse logs, manage patches, and proactively respond to security incidents.
  • Maintain high integrity and compliance of all cloud systems.

Performance & Cost Optimisation

  • Monitor and optimise cloud solutions for performance, cost efficiency, accessibility, and availability.
  • Implement improvements that enhance reliability and user experience.

Technical Support & Operations

  • Provide expert support to engineering teams and business owners on Azure services.
  • Participate in occasional after-hours work for scheduled operations.
  • Build proactive failure-handling procedures; create and maintain support documentation.
  • Manage access, troubleshoot Azure service issues, and support production workloads.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with trends in Azure data technologies and evaluate new solutions for adoption.
  • Identify opportunities to modernise and optimise the Data Platform.

Business Continuity & Availability

  • Support planning and execution of disaster recovery, failover, and risk-mitigation strategies.
  • Improve system resilience through pragmatic, risk-reducing initiatives.

Monitoring & Automation

  • Monitor systems for anomalies, performance drops, and security signals.
  • Create and execute proactive incident-resolution procedures.
  • Write automation scripts to eliminate repetitive tasks and reduce operational workload.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data services and Azure Infrastructure.
  • Good knowledge of ITSM/ITIL (Change, Incident, Problem Management).
  • Understanding of networking concepts (VNETs, NSGs, VPNs), identity services (Entra ID, RBAC), and cloud security best practices.

Qualifications

  • 4–5+ years in roles such as Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent English (B2/C1).

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft Azure Associate-level certifications.
  • Experience in international organisations.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Windows servers on VMs, Azure Virtual Desktop, Application Gateway + WAF.
  • PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripting.
  • Infrastructure-as-code (Bicep).
  • Understanding of Azure Container Apps, microservices, and serverless architectures.
  • Experience managing M365 services (SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive, Intune, Autopilot, Windows365).
  • Familiarity with Zabbix.
