Role description
We are seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to lead the optimization and scaling of our test automation framework for the HCP Portal project deployed in 30+ countries. An initial Cypress implementation is already in place, and we want to continue improving and expanding it.
Working closely with our Tech Lead and our Product Owner, you will focus on test strategy, framework optimization, and establishing quality engineering best practices that enable efficient testing across all deployments.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive test automation strategy leveraging parallel testing, risk-based prioritization, and visual regression testing.
- Assess and optimize the existing Cypress framework.
- Collaboratewith the Tech Lead on infrastructure requirements while focusing on testing strategy and execution.
- Partner with development teams to ensure quality standards.
- Suggest and leverage AI test automation when relevant.
- Develop risk-based testing frameworks to prioritize critical functionalities.
- Architect scalable test execution framework capable of efficiently testing 40+ portal instances.
- Implement visual regression testing solutions to catch UI inconsistencies across portals.
- Create master test suites for standard features and frameworks for country-specific test development.
- Integrate automated testing into existing CI/CD pipelines.
- Establish test data management and test environment coordination strategies.
- Define and track quality metrics and KPIs for test automation effectiveness.
- Optimize test execution time through intelligent test selection and parallel execution.
- Ensure test reliability and minimize false positives through robust framework design.
- Create comprehensive documentation, standards, and best practices for the QA team.
- Drive continuous improvement of testing processes and practices.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of software quality assurance experience with 2+ years in test automation.
- Proficiency with Cypress framework - ability to diagnose and resolve framework inefficiencies, optimize test architecture, and implement best practices.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript programming skills with deep understanding of async operations, promises, and modern ES6+ features.
- Experience testing web applications.
- Experience integrating tests with existing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
- Knowledge of test environment coordination with DevOps teams.
- Understanding of monitoring and observability for test insights.
- Familiarity with deployment workflows and staging environment management.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams, particularly in upskilling manual testers to automation engineers.
- Strong change management skills to drive adoption of improved testing methodologies.
- Technical coaching skills to elevate team capabilities in automation best practices.
- Process optimization mindset to identify bottlenecks and implement improvements.
- Pragmatic prioritization - focus on high-impact improvements over perfection.
