Your role and responsibilities
ABB is a pioneering technology leader in motors and drives, which are an integral part of everyone’s lives. Our drives offering is the most comprehensive, unmatched by anyone else in the drives industry. We are looking for an R&D Engineer for System Drives experienced with embedded software development and a power electronics background to help us maintain our #1 position as a global drives player. As a member of the Research and Development (R&D) for System Drives team based in Krakow, you will be responsible for developing the MVD product software. We guarantee a challenging and rewarding work environment in a global R&D team full of truly dedicated engineers, scientists, and developers. The work model for the role is hybrid (#LI-hybrid).
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Development of embedded software for medium voltage drives
- Conducting multiple layer testing including hardware-in-the-loop simulations
- Analysis of technical documentation and electrical schemes for drive systems and testing infrastructure
- Conducting product troubleshooting in the lab and in the field
- Effectively working with cross-functional teams including physics, control algorithms design, software, and system engineering
- Leading relevant design and development tasks; providing technical leadership; coordinating with other people
- Occasional international travel to our R&D center, production sites, and customers
Qualifications for the role
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation and Robotics
- At least 2 years of professional experience, preferably with MVD
- Hands-on experience with embedded software development
- Experience with C++ and GIT
- Understanding of converter control theory or power electronics
- Good written and spoken English
- Knowledge of continuous integration systems (Jenkins) is an advantage
- Additional advantage would be proficiency with Matlab and Simulink
- Self-motivated, independent, and comfortable working in an Agile team environment, with strong problem-analysis and solving skills
- Strong desire to learn and share knowledge
