Project Overview
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, we are responsible for the design of the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant and the construction of the entire facility. Job Summary
Assigned to a field construction organization in a supervisory position. Responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities for Direct Hire and Subcontractor scope of work. May serve as primary client contact for all job‑site activities or coordinate with the client’s resident representatives. Responsibilities ensure job‑site operations comply with design/specifications, are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards.
Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for job‑site operations, including all onsite activities of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
- Supervises all direct‑hire Superintendents assigned to the project and manages project direct‑hire work practices.
- Overall responsibility for craft worker safety in accordance with Bechtel’s Environmental Health and Safety program.
- Responsible for implementation of site and project safety programs and ensuring strict adherence to all site requirements by subcontractors and professional craft personnel.
- Ensures adherence to government, local authorities and site compliance programs.
- Plans and implements procedures to ensure construction operations continually adhere to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules, and budgets.
- Identifies and manages construction‑based risk items as a member of the Construction Management Team.
- Establishes, coordinates, and implements construction schedules, manning charts, material and equipment requirements.
- Works with Site Supervision, Field Engineering, and Project Controls to manage area schedules, construction methods, and procedures.
Other Major Responsibilities
- Manages area work schedules in relation to the project overall execution plan and schedule.
- Responsible for overseeing the quality of installations and ensuring installed commodities meet project construction quality requirements.
- Monitors subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with specifications, schedules, and subcontract requirements.
- Coordinates activities with other disciplines or areas, and client resident representatives as instructed by construction management.
- Coordinates with Field Engineering to ensure required notifications for quality inspections are met.
- Coordinates general site needs (equipment, cranes, material deliveries, etc.) with the Indirect Manager and Staff.
- Effectively communicates with internal and external customers related to project construction activities.
- Responsible for the field organization to ensure the job‑site organization is composed of qualified and knowledgeable personnel and ensures effective personnel utilisation.
- Monitors Foreman/Worker ratios on the project for assigned direct‑hire work scope.
- Monitors construction equipment utilisation and maintenance, tool usage at site, and approves field materials requisitions for tools and consumables.
- Ensures construction site cleanliness and housekeeping requirements are met.
- Ensures compliance with Bechtel, Polish law, and safety codes, requirements and standards within the assigned area of responsibility.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelors or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience, or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
- Must complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment, education and travel.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk‑downs requiring extensive walking, ladder and scaffolding use, fall protection and other PPE, walking on elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and confined space manoeuvres.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge and experience of EPC Power or commercial nuclear construction projects.
- Self‑starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, capable of excelling in a team environment.
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, and managing large construction teams.
- Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME, and NQA‑1 requirements.
- Good working knowledge of Labor Relations, Labor Agreements and Craft Jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on Industrial Power Projects.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Recent experience with Nuclear Power or as an Areas Superintendent.
- Previous experience in Construction Management (Site Manager, PFE or PFS) on a large Bechtel NS&E Project.
- Previous experience/knowledge working with EU codes and standards.
