Product Stewardship & IMDS Specialist

Your responsibilities

  • Helps to ensure that products designed/ manufactured meet product regulatory requirements such as REACH, ELV & IMDS and other similar global legislation and customer substances of concern requirements;
  • Advise Product Engineering and Purchasing of the impact of chemicals placed on the REACH Candidate List, REACH Annex XIV (Authorization) List, and REACH Annex XVII (Restriction) List by identifying products, components and suppliers affected. This includes REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs);
  • Advise Sites of the impact of REACH “authorization” requirements on Site operations, and the effects of REACH “restriction” and “evaluation” on the availability of chemical substances in the overall supply chain. This includes the chemicals that the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) adds to the REACH Annex XIV list of substances requiring “authorization” and REACH Annex XVII list of “restricted” chemicals;
  • Work with key contacts in Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, HS&E and Operations who need to address substances of concern change management issues, such as those related to REACH;
  • Attend Projects Gate Reviews, as needed, to become more integrated with Program Management, Product Engineering and Purchasing and to advise of any issues or non-conformances to product regulatory requirements so that component or material substitutions can be made early on in the design process;
  • Respond to Customer requests, communicate and resolve substances of concern reporting and change management issues to get IMDS submissions approved for PPAP;
  • Evaluate changes to Customer’s prohibited substance specifications and advise the Global Account Director and Product Engineering of significant changes, especially those which are customer driven;
  • Work with HSE to ensure BCS requirements and processes related to EACH/ELV/IMDS and other similar global legislation are followed;
  • Work with HSE to develop Product Regulatory Plan and report on progress
  • Provides assigned coordination of IMDS efforts and report submittals for multiple customers and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinating with key contacts in other BCS disciplines such as Purchasing/Supplier Development, Engineering, Quality, to obtain data required and to resolve reporting issues.
  • Interacting as needed with customers to communicate and resolve reporting issues to get BCS submissions approved.
  • Prioritizing IMDS reports based on customer requirements including those requiring IMDS submissions as part of PPAP.
  • Answering technical reporting questions from suppliers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned related to product compliance analysis

Our requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry and /or Chemical or Environmental Engineering or closely related field is required
  • Advanced Degree or related Professional Certification desirable.
  • Ten (10) to 15 years applicable work experience.
  • Must have ability to work without direct day-to-day supervision and must be capable of managing/leading assigned resources in these functions.
  • Ability to identify hazardous substances, materials, concentrations and chemical naming conventions.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Computer expertise with pc, internet-based systems and database knowledge.
  • Work experience within the automotive sector and knowledge of environmental sustainability / product stewardship are desirable.
  • Knowledge of IMDS and CAMDS (Chinese Automotive Material Data System) and other customer reporting systems required
