Overview

Procurement Business Partner - R&D at Moderna. The Procurement Business Partner for Research will lead category management, sourcing, supplier management, and stakeholder engagement for Modernas external spend across Research. Reporting to the Head of R&D Procurement, this role is part of a global, collaborative Procurement team focused on transforming how Moderna strategically assesses and engages in key investments across the organization. You will manage an annual spend of over $200M in areas including Toxicology, Genomics, DMPK services, and Laboratory Consumables. This is based in Modernas international business services hub in Warsaw, Poland.

Responsibilities

  • Building and cultivating strategic stakeholder relationships to meet company needs while delivering total value.
  • Developing initial category plans and managing multi-year category roadmaps and pipelines of sourcing initiatives.
  • Implementing strategic sourcing initiatives and applying advanced tools and techniques to negotiation and agreements.
  • Leading Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) programs and fostering strong supplier partnerships.
  • Evaluating and monitoring supplier risks, implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Delivering cost reductions and achieving savings targets through effective sourcing initiatives.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to continuously improve sourcing strategies and ensure sourcing effectiveness.
  • Managing supplier performance to ensure alignment with Moderna’s high standards and driving ongoing improvement.
  • Demonstrating financial acumen and applying innovative approaches to achieve business objectives.
  • Leading through influence, recommending sourcing strategies, and delivering business results.

Qualifications

  • Basic: 6+ years of progressive category management/strategic sourcing experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in an R&D setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; BA/BS in a technical discipline desired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient-level skills in communications, project management, relationship management, negotiation, financial acumen, analytics, presentation, technology aptitude, results-focus, and professionalism in a matrixed environment.
  • Category experience with research services strongly preferred.
  • Track record of savings delivery; ability to manage complexity and change.
  • Ability to work in a metric-driven environment and meet challenging targets.
  • Desire to help build a world-class Procurement function.
  • Ability to lead through influence, recommend sourcing strategies, and deliver business results.
  • Strong collaboration and communications skills in a matrixed environment.
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
  • Professional procurement certification (CPSM, MCIPS, etc.) desired.
