For our client, a leading education technology company, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Test. This role involves being part of one or more agile teams dedicated to delivering essential product features. The Principal Engineer engages in the entire product lifecycle, from development through to production, to ensure high-quality software. They spearhead the design of intricate solutions, evaluate the work of their peers, and mentor other team members within the agile framework.

Actively engage in daily Scrum activities with the team, including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and sprint retrospectives. Review and evaluate high-level business requirements presented as epics and features, and lead the estimation of work at the quarterly level. Guide the team in breaking down and estimating user stories for each sprint, offering alternative solutions and negotiating with Product Management.
Oversee large engineering/QA projects or specific product areas, lead cross-department technical projects, and manage multiple team projects while ensuring business visibility. Develop high-quality code, establish new standards, patterns, and best practices, and own the architecture and design documentation for new products, systems, and patterns. Participate in researching and innovating with new technologies.
Review teammates’ work to ensure quality and adherence to system architecture and best practices, identifying necessary architectural changes for new designs. Troubleshoot and replicate complex and highly escalated customer issues promptly. Lead the development, build, deployment, and monitoring processes, with a focus on security, performance, and scalability.
At least 8 years of relevant work experience, including writing test cases, test plans, and test automation.
Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript) and test automation frameworks (e.g., WebdriverIO, Appium, Selenium Webdriver, CucumberIO).
Strong understanding of unit testing, integration testing, load testing, and related tools (e.g., Jest, Junit, Artillery, JMeter).
Extensive experience in the full lifecycle of system development, including design, building, testing, deployment, upgrade, and support.
Familiarity with application lifecycle management tools (e.g., Atlassian) and concepts for version control, work item tracking, and continuous integration.
Advanced expertise in performance tuning, security, scalability, reliability, and other non-functional testing concepts.
