JOB PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of an ISK teacher is to facilitate the intellectual and personal development of
learners fulfilling our schools vision, transfer learning goals and other purpose statements. The teacher will provide an instructional program for learners and will assist in other school programs as required by Board of Trustees policy, contractual obligations, and other responsibilities as determined by the supervisor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● 2 classes a week
Teach German classes in alignment with the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFRL) Standards as well as the IB curriculum.
● Collaborate with other teaching colleagues on curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure comparable experiences for all students across the same courses.
● Effectively apply the most up-to-date, research-based strategies to address the needs of diverse learners.
● Collaborate positively with all members of the school community (student, colleagues, parents, leaders).
● Meet the learning needs of learners with diverse language backgrounds.
● Model the skills and attitudes of global citizenship, antiracism and intercultural sensitivity.
● Support and promote the school’s shared understanding of high quality learning, mission, and learning goals.
● Work cooperatively within a collaborative team and with leadership in curriculum design, assessment, and implementation.
● Work cooperatively with parents to create strong partnerships.
● Attend school-sponsored events & activities.
● Participate in the after-school activities program.
● Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Planning & Preparations
● Ensures that instruction is geared to the individual needs of learners and sets the highest standards for each student at his or her stage of intellectual development and ability. This includes knowledge of the subject content, understanding of learners’ backgrounds, and appropriate design of instruction and assessment.
Learning Environment
● Foster a learning environment based on trust, respect, integrity, responsibility, and concern for others, and an atmosphere that allows learners to develop group and social interaction skills through cooperation, group projects, and the development of friendly relationships with teachers and fellow learners. This includes the teacher’s ability to establish a conducive learning environment, in terms of both physical and interpersonal aspects.
Instruction and Assessment
● Ensure that learners develop core academic skills and the ability to apply them in daily life.
● Collect authentic data, observe and record age appropriate learner assessments, and utilize assessment results in a prescriptive, constructive manner to promote learning.
● Facilitate achievement through a variety of teaching styles and strategies matched to the needs of the individual, identifying special talents, and providing challenging educational programs and techniques designed to encourage the wide development of these individual talents.
● Utilize formative assessment data to deliver appropriate instruction to each learner.
Professionalism
● Maintain continuous dialogue among learners, teachers, administration, and parents.
● Engage in self-assessment and demonstrate the ability to be a reflective practitioner
participating in ongoing professional development.
