The Vattenfall IT Data Centre department is accountable for Data Centres and Public Cloud services. Vattenfall IT has adopted a "cloud first" strategy. The Public Cloud Platform Services department is responsible for delivering Public Cloud services. For workloads that are not suitable for public cloud services, Vattenfall IT provides country-based Data Centres with traditional on-premise hosting platforms. Vattenfall IT is transitioning to Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) platforms, moving away from traditional hosting towards private cloud architectures and platform service delivery for workloads that require country or business-specific regulatory compliance.

What will you do?

As our new Operational Engineer you will be responsible for managing all operating systems on servers located in Vattenfall environment. Operation Engineer drives complex changes, actively supports new implementations, and cares for service improvement through problem management. Furthermore, the Operation Engineer has also responsibilities related to Storages, Floor and Hardware Management, virtual and cloud environment and interconnection with other systems (e.g. Network, Data Bases etc). The Operation Engineer is responsible for system administration, SW and HW maintenance, disaster recovery protection and supports the deployment of new services works on operation concepts and with system and security.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

• Daily Maintenance of Microsoft Windows systems hosted in on-premise Data Centres
• Maintenance of internal security tools and applications, system hardening
• Patch and vulnerability Management
• Support by migration of applications to up-to-date platforms
• Develop automation scripts, internal portals and dashboards, setup new functions
• Manage operational incidents on 1st and 2nd level, if needed
• Join improvement initiatives in Windows Hosting area Together with your team, develop and maintain operational policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that IT operations are aligned with organisational goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Who are you?

You are an experienced specialist looking to step into the role of a Senior Engineer in the Data Centre. You are driven by technical and operational challenges and have a strong desire to enable your team to consistently improve and deliver efficient, stable, compliant, and secure services. You enjoy leading complex projects and you are able to plan your own work including future administration 1-3 months. You give advice for improvements that lead to a permanent solution of incidents or complex customer questions.

Next to this you bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL
• Very good knowledge of data centre related solutions and technologies and specialism in several operating systems
• Experience as project leader/ coordinator in complex business-critical projects
• More than 7 years of Windows Hosting experience
• Motivating, energizing and driving team performance brings you satisfaction
• You enjoy communicating and working closely with customers, stakeholders, and team members
• General technical knowledge in Windows Server operations
• You enjoy solving complex problems
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
