Position Overview:
The role of a HiCAP Network Engineer primarily involves supporting Metro-Ethernet (Metro-E) services with a focus on the existing MEF-compliant offerings and the development of new products and services. This includes POR (Point of Reference) and NON-POR planning, with an additional emphasis on integrating cloud services (AWS, Azure) into the Metro-E product suite, including datacenter (D2C) integrations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the end-to-end Metro-Ethernet service portfolio, focusing on operational performance, network testing (Y.1564, RFC2544), and adherence to SLA requirements.
- Participate in the design and deployment of next-generation network (NGN) products that incorporate SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and NFV (Network Function Virtualization).
- Work with cloud integration strategies for AWS and Azure, ensuring smooth integration with Metro-E and related services.
- Provide expert-level support for Ethernet, IP services, and Layer 2/3 protocols, ensuring high-quality service delivery across various network environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, business units, service delivery, and operations, to evolve current platforms.
- Maintain strong knowledge of security solutions (IPS/IDS, DDoS protection, firewalls) and network automation, especially in the context of high-availability and virtualized environments.
- Engage in network performance analysis, including hands-on troubleshooting using test tools such as EXFO, Viavi, and Ixia.
Key Skills and Knowledge:
- Expertise in Metro-Ethernet, particularly in MEF 2.0 and 3.0 standards.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6, multicast, and network automation tools.
- Experience with SDN/NFV architectures and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) with a focus on integration and network virtualization.
- Familiarity with key network equipment such as Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, and Arista for both transport and switching.
- Scripting and development experience in languages such as Perl, Python, Java, and UNIX Shell Scripting for network automation and operations.
Qualifications:
- Practical experience in service provider networks, ideally within the cable industry or similar environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise-level network implementations and managed services for large-scale clients.
- Industry-recognized certifications like CCNP, JNCIP, and familiarity with cloud management systems like OpenStack and VMware vCloud.
- This role requires a mix of hands-on technical expertise, strategic thinking for network evolution, and strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders and support the continuous improvement of network services.
