Offer Description

IMol has been established to conduct scientific research and provide training in the fields of biological, chemical, medical, biotechnological, bioinformatics, biophysical, pharmacological, and similar sciences, in the international environment conducive to collaborative efforts, research and development interactions with the biotechnological industry, and wide dissemination of our results. We aim at the development of solutions that will help everyone on this planet live a safer life.

At the moment, IMol is looking for a candidate for the position of PhD student/student in Warsaw, Poland, for the implementation of the project Sonata 20 (Project leader: Dr Klaudia Maruszczak) financed by the National Science Center.

Project title: "Control of phospholipid composition of the inner mitochondrial membrane and its impact on protein translocase activity"

This project will investigate how the lipid composition of the mitochondrial inner membrane regulates protein import and organelle biogenesis, focusing on the role of the enzyme PISD, which synthesizes phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). It will explore how PISD dysfunction affects mitochondrial function and contributes to cellular lipid imbalance and disease. The project seeks to advance understanding of how mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to human disease by uncovering regulatory mechanisms of lipid-dependent protein import.

We are looking for a highly motivated person to:

  • Perform experiments using biochemical, molecular biology or genetic techniquesindependently and in collaboration with other team members),
  • Participate in experimental design and data analysis,
  • Participate in the data preparation and writing of manuscripts,
  • Actively participate in lab meetings, scientific seminars and conferences.

Profile of candidates/requirements:

  • BSc degree in molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry or related fields of life sciences,
  • Solid knowledge and familiarity with laboratory techniques in at least one of the following disciplines: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, transcriptomics,
  • Very good command of English,
  • Motivation and passion for experimental work.

We offer:

  • Type of the contract (stipend): Scholarship, part-time position, fixed-term contract, up to12months
  • Remuneration/month: 1.700 PLN net/month (ca. 400 Eur net/month)
  • The position starts on the 1st of Jan 2026
