Job Description

Therapeutic area: Hematology.

Territorial scope (districts): zachodniopomorskie, pomorskie, lubuskie, wielkopolskie, kujawsko-pomorskie.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a non‑promotional, field‑based scientific expert in a given therapeutic area who strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives across a product life cycle. The MSL enhances AbbVies scientific credibility by engaging in scientific dialogue and collaboration with KOLs or Thought Leaders, facilitating scientific and medical information, and ensuring compliant communication of AbbVie’s products and pipeline compounds.

Responsibilities

Externally:

  • Identify and develop professional trusting relationships with external experts in therapeutic areas of interest within assigned geography.
  • Conduct balanced, peer‑to‑peer scientific dialogue to inform on AbbVie products across the lifecycle within the given therapeutic area.
  • Engage in robust scientific exchange on relevant disease‑state topics.
  • Deliver credible scientific presentations to external experts and healthcare professionals where requested to address medical or scientific knowledge gaps.
  • Facilitate medical and scientific field intelligence (data points and observations collection) – e.g., competitor information, new developments, educational activities – and report back through appropriate channels.
  • Engage investigators working on AbbVie clinical studies, including investigator identification and study initiation training, and support unsolicited requests for investigator‑initiated studies (IIS).
  • Serve as a point of contact for external experts within an assigned geographic area to satisfy their needs for scientific knowledge, including handling unsolicited requests for off‑label information.
  • Assist external experts with access to AbbVie medicines on a named‑patient or compassionate‑use basis, subject to applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for AbbVie in key academic centres by facilitating research and educational initiatives while supporting requests for information on products or areas of therapeutic interest.
  • Ensure all activities and interactions comply with local laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie policies, and accepted standards of best practice.
  • Maintain current scientific expertise in relevant AbbVie products, therapeutic area, disease states, and competitive landscape.

Internally:

  • Work with internal colleagues to develop and execute a territory expert‑engagement plan that supports defined medical objectives and healthcare professional needs.
  • Collaborate with other in‑field teams to address scientific or medical needs of a geographical area/account.
  • Serve as a scientific resource for internal AbbVie functions, including Commercial partners, in compliance with internal policies.
  • Deliver scientific training sessions for internal teams such as sales, marketing, and brand teams to develop their scientific and technical expertise.
  • Attend relevant scientific meetings and congresses; develop summaries of key data and other scientifically relevant information to inform AbbVies strategic priorities and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in health sciences or clinical discipline required (Doctorate level – Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD). Candidates with an undergraduate degree and significant relevant experience may be considered.
  • Greater than or equal to 2 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry‑related experience or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment and the role of Medical Affairs in advancing medical and scientific objectives.
  • Experience as a Medical Science Liaison (or similar) with proven success preferred.
  • Ability to interpret clinical data and communicate key aspects and impact to practice/patients.
  • Ability to quickly learn new subject areas and environments.
  • Experience developing and maintaining expert knowledge for the assigned therapeutic area and in medical research.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills (local language and English preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional, matrixed team.
  • Robust understanding of the local healthcare environment.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the stipulated geographical area and occasionally nationally/internationally.
