Position Summary

With expertise in clinical research, medical engagement and stakeholder interactions, translate in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic area, product and market into strategies and tactics within the medical/brand and launch plans and ensure execution. Engage in scientific dialogue with thought leaders to generate key insights, identify medical gaps and explore opportunities for extending the lifecycle of our products as well as driving specific medical programs/studies at the local level. Close cross-functional collaboration with other department colleagues and brand teams is crucial for the role. This role involves approximately 50% home office work and 50% field work, depending on TA and product life cycle status (but no more than 50% field work).

Key Responsibilities

  • Disease Area Reference Point: Serve as a disease area scientific expert and primary responsible medical person for a TA/one or more tumor types.
  • Lead as an enterprise partner by ensuring medical input to the launch/brand plan and reimbursement dossier throughout the peri-launch phase, translating strategies into tactics.
  • In the pre-launch phase, lead development of medical plan tactics in close cooperation with cross-functional teams.
  • Execute on the Medical Plan and manage budget accordingly.
  • Support local ISRs through the global approval process until end of study/publication.
  • Drive local medical programs, such as compassionate use programs and real-world data projects/studies.
  • Contribute to the review of promotional and non-promotional materials for scientific accuracy.
  • Leadership in Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide medical support to studies per Scope documents and SOPs and support RCO with investigator/site insights.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Commercial, Regulatory, HEOR, Clinical Development, Pharmacovigilance, Finance, Access/Corporate/Public/Governmental Affairs, and Business Operations to develop and deliver brand strategies.
  • Coordinate medical roles within the TA in the home country (e.g., pan-tumor in oncology).
  • External Stakeholder Engagement: Identify lifecycle extension opportunities through discussions with national/regional/global Thought Leaders.
  • Develop scientific collaborations and dialogues with thought leaders, focusing on peer-to-peer discussions with regional/global TLs.
  • Conduct high-quality peer-to-peer discussions with HCPs to support improved patient care.
  • Engage with Thought Leaders, medical societies, patient advocacy groups, and guideline discussions.
  • Facilitate scientific partnerships and research collaborations, proactively leading major evidence readouts to investigators.
  • Compliance: Complies with all internal and external laws, regulations and policies governing BMS business.

Qualifications & Experience

  • All Healthcare Professionals — Medical doctor (physician), PharmD or PhD, with experience in a specific disease area or broad medical background (preferred); OR Science Graduate with relevant pharmaceutical experience including medical affairs 3-5 years.
  • In-depth knowledge of a scientific or clinical area in the relevant therapeutic area.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.
  • Knowledge of National Healthcare and access systems and the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of HEOR data and ability to communicate value data.
  • Experience working in scientific/clinical research environment and cross-functional teams; ability to lead and navigate a matrix organization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in local language (native) and English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to contextualize scientific data for physicians; experience in peer-to-peer relationships with top clinicians; ability to train others.
  • Quick learner of new subject areas; deep disease area knowledge and understanding of scientific publications.
  • Enterprise Mindset; Authentic Leadership; Change Agility; good business acumen; track record of high-impact peer-to-peer relationships with national Thought Leaders.
