Overview

Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Body at Slate Auto

Slate Auto is seeking a dynamic, experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our growing team. The role focuses on new product and process development and will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and successful plant launch. The team will work with internal and external partners to exceed customer expectations.

What You Get To Do

  • Develop and implement robust quality assurance and control processes related to Body / Welding systems for a plant startup.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality requirements are developed and integrated within the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to address technical and process quality issues to ensure the highest quality standards.
  • Perform regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications for the new car launch and plant launch.
  • Work closely with suppliers through the supplier quality team to establish and monitor quality expectations for incoming materials and components.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, inspection procedures, and quality manuals.
  • Utilize risk assessment tools and verify robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.
  • Support the development and maintenance of FMEA and control plans through APQP methods.
  • Support the definition of quality processes and technical standards in cooperation with development, product management and manufacturing to ensure product quality.
  • Support the planning and evaluation of body dimensional and welding product testing within quality and approvals of functions and systems.
  • Provide quality support to technical and manufacturing teams for body quality and weldments, and drive/support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g., industrial, mechanical, manufacturing or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in automotive engineering/manufacturing quality at an OEM/Tier 1.
  • Strong technical understanding and knowledge of product/vehicle development and production with focus on manufacturing and plant launch.
  • Proven track record of delivering new program launches on time while meeting metrics.
  • Excellent product and process assessment, problem solving and root cause capabilities.
  • Solid knowledge of quality management, QA and QC disciplines.
  • Strong teamwork and communication, assertiveness, entrepreneurial thinking and goal-oriented decision making.
  • Experience with AIAG, IATF 16949, MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP and other automotive quality tools.
  • Good knowledge of core documentation – FMEAs and Control Plans; experience with GD&T.
  • High integrity and data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
