About the project

Financial Crime function monitors, maintains, and develops the Transaction Monitoring systems across the HSBC Group and supports business & other risk functions in decision making. It is responsible for ensuring that the Transactions Monitoring systems are up to date and provide service without any bias, ensuring a proper risk coverage.

We work closely with Business representatives, IT teams and Risk Management across the globe, providing expert knowledge around transaction monitoring models and supporting decision making to stakeholders in over 20 countries.

We provide service in multiple areas: Business Intelligence, Machine Learning, Analytics and Business Support, utilizing wide scope of knowledge, techniques, and technologies in our day-to-day work.

The team’s mission is to detect financial crime, such as money laundering, terrorism financing, drug trade, human trafficking, and tax avoidance - and to maintain and extend horizon of methodologies used in this process.

Your responsibilities

  • Enable Bank to monitor their customer transactions and generate automated alerts for activities that may be unusual and indicative of potential Financial Crime including money laundering, terrorist financing, etc.
  • Design, deploy, monitor and maintain models in various geographies for Transaction Monitoring / Client screening.
  • Support Financial Crime Compliance Operations with analytical solutions for increased efficiency and operational effectiveness through models, scorecards and data attestation frameworks.
  • Define Compliance Metrics and Design / Deploy MI dashboards to provide insight into system / process performance.
  • Support System Implementation teams to ensure zero defect.
  • Apply relevant analytical methods / algorithms to get actionable insights from HSBCs internal (both structured and unstructured) and external data sources.
  • Partner with IT / Data Engineering teams to create deployment road-map and provide actionable solutions with clear articulation of recommendations for the business stakeholders across geographies.
  • Independently manage delivery of analytics projects by working with business partners across regions / geographies and actively contribute in innovative analytical solutioning for improved business performance.

Our requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience of using statistical concepts and/or machine learning models to solve complex business problems.
  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Management or other quantitative fields of study is required.
  • Proficiency in SAS / R, Python, SQL, JavaScript and MS Office tools like Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Proven expertise in using statistical / ML algorithms for solving diverse business challenges and creating significant business value.
  • Knowledge and exposure to cloud analytics platform such as GCP, AWS Redshift, Azure etc. would be a plus but not mandatory.
  • Enthusiasm for proactively seeking, exploring and developing use cases for new data and/or tools/wider industry trends.
  • Strong business acumen with out-of-the box thinking to drive improved business performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and seamless delivery of analytics initiatives across markets.
