Position Overview

The Legal Entity Controller is responsible for financial reporting activities for Asia (Hong Kong & Singapore) and providing financial reporting support for Europe, a UK regulated entity. Both duties report into the Head of Finance EMEA (London Office). The role ensures the accuracy of the underlying numbers reported in the Asia monthly and year‑end financial statements and guides the various control functions. The Controller manages two legal entities in Asia with aggregate turnover of approximately US$9M reporting under US GAAP and IFRS. The Controller leads the monthly review of the Asia entity results, balance sheet and regulatory capital status with the Europe and Asia CFO and Head of Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Group entity reporting and other functional departments (Tax, Treasury, Back/Middle Office Operations, FP&A and Legal) both in the US, UK and globally.
  • Provide assistance with the annual budgeting/forecasting and daily/monthly and annual regulatory deliverables (Hong Kong Financial Resources Return – FRR and Singapore Capital Returns).
  • Assist the Europe Legal Entity Controller with month‑end close activities (including accruals, prepayments, cost allocations and balance sheet substantiation) for the UK regulated entity, Cantor Fitzgerald Europe Limited.
  • Generate ad‑hoc reporting to Senior Management and the respective Boards.
  • Act as key liaison with external auditors (EY), managing the year‑end audit and annual statutory filings to strict deadlines.
  • Report monthly on the results of responsible entities and ensure internal/external deadlines are met with accurate information.
  • Prepare, post and review journals for the Asia and European month‑end close (including accruals, prepayments, payroll, cost allocations).
  • Produce statutory accounts for required entities and liaise with external auditors to obtain sign‑off on audited accounts by deadline.
  • Lead monthly reviews of Asia entity results, balance sheet and regulatory capital status with Europe and Asia CFO and Head of Finance.
  • Support Corporate Accounting, Product Control, Tax and FP&A teams to maintain and strengthen the control environment.
  • Assist in preparing annual budget/forecasting process and deliver regulatory press for Hong Kong FRR and Singapore Capital Returns.
  • Prepare annual corporation tax packs for Asia entities for external tax advisors.
  • Assist in quarterly Singapore GST return and tax invoices preparation.
  • Partner with Treasury and Cash Management to evolve models for charging out Cash Capital and Cost of Equity.
  • Understand FX exposure within responsible entities and help manage global FX position across the Group.
  • Provide guidance on intercompany recharges, allocations and transfer‑pricing processes.
  • Coordinate liquidation and dissolution of redundant entities, and restorations where appropriate.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations (entity control, product control, AR accounts) and report concerns to senior management.
  • Monitor regulatory impact of intercompany balances and settle related‑party receivables/payables.
  • Monitor un‑posted journals and resolve issues and postings as needed.
  • Monitor control account / suspense / wash accounts and resolve breaks pre‑month‑end.
  • Monitor cash breaks and ensure they are cleared.
  • Support Head of Finance with ad‑hoc issues such as accounting policy changes, acquisitions and head‑office queries.
  • Be alert to Conduct Risk issues affecting client interests, market integrity or competition.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with 2‑3 years post‑qualification experience in financial services (broking or trading).
  • Prior experience in a legal entity control position.
  • Strong academic background and good career progression.
  • Strong control mentality, excellent accounting, analytical and reporting skills.
  • Experience with complex reporting – consolidation accounting, impairment assessments, minority interest accounting.
  • Pro‑active attitude, ability to take responsibility, make decisions, gain respect quickly.
  • Process analysis skills to identify vulnerabilities and control weaknesses.
  • Understanding of US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Ability to evaluate issues and decisions with little upward reference.
  • Good written and verbal communication; ability to interact across the organisation.
  • Maturity and credibility to deal with brokers/traders, senior management and colleagues.
  • Flexibility and willingness to contribute to an exciting, dynamic, multi‑cultural business.
