Job Description

The role is for an Indirect Tax Advisory Senior Manager – EMEA & APAC, based in Warsaw, Poland. It is a full‑time hybrid working advisory role within the finance function that manages the group’s tax affairs across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will lead the indirect tax function, handle queries from external tax authorities (primarily the UK), provide indirect tax advisory services across the group, support the review of international businesses to document indirect tax implications, and oversee audits and enquiries.

Location: Warsaw, Poland – hybrid model, onsite 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detailed technical understanding of UK PESM methodologies and experience with sector‑by‑sector optimisation.
  • Provide tax technical answers to ad hoc queries internally and in writing to external stakeholders such as HMRC.
  • Deliver high‑quality indirect tax advice to all business areas.
  • Build a good working relationship with HMRC and monitor the group’s partial exemption position.
  • Advise the group on indirect tax implications of acquisitions or disposals.
  • Manage and assist with indirect tax audits and enquiries where applicable.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of indirect tax activities and initiate efforts to streamline and improve processes using the group’s tax technology resources.
  • Work with the business to document processes and controls, including monitoring implementation.
  • Ensure indirect tax compliance by reviewing returns, overseeing journalling, liaising with the business, and providing dashboards to senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct system and process assurance reviews to identify gaps and risks, and work with owners to rectify issues.
  • Provide training to improve employee performance within specific functional areas.
  • Build relationships with key internal stakeholders and act as their business partner to understand new products and transactions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure smooth quarterly and year‑end processes.
  • Produce indirect tax returns in EMEA and APAC regions, ensuring GST and VAT returns are filed and paid on time.
  • Conduct continual process reviews, maintaining an up‑to‑date manual of the indirect tax return process.

Requirements

  • Qualified CTA/ACA or equivalent indirect tax qualification essential.
  • Good understanding of international indirect tax issues.
  • Experience working in a partially exempt business essential.
  • Management experience of staff (indirect tax accountants and support).
  • Experience completing indirect tax returns and strong technical understanding of HMRC indirect tax compliance and accounting.
  • Excellent Excel skills and knowledge of finance systems (Oracle).
  • Ability to investigate and amend reported financials to remove inaccuracies.
  • Strong drive to fully understand detail and resolve issues correctly.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Encouragement to automate or change existing processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
