HVAC Designer (for projects in Switzerland)

Join AFRY as an HVAC Designer in Switzerland. You will be part of the HVAC team located in Bellinzona, Zürich and Lausanne, within the Building Services & Environment Business Unit.

You will join a team of about 92 employees globally, including Electrical designers and energy/environmental specialists. The group has more than 20 years of experience providing architects with energy‑aware solutions and designing all technical components inside buildings.

Main focus for this group are projects related to buildings, industrial facilities and data centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creation, interpretation, and adaptation of P&ID schematics for complex HVAC systems.
  • Sizing of hydraulic networks using dedicated software and selection of appropriate equipment.
  • Selection of HVAC system components (e.g., chillers, water circulation, expansion systems).
  • Application of redundancy concepts in planning and execution.
  • Coordination with other disciplines, both geometrically and functionally.
  • Development and implementation of control concepts for HVAC systems.
  • Commissioning of HVAC systems in datacenters or industrial environments.
  • 3D modeling.
  • Preparation of scheme drawings.
  • BoQ extracts and calculations.

Qualifications

Must have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in HVAC engineering or vocational training in HVAC.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Solid knowledge of HVAC technology and its components.
  • Many years of experience in an engineering office.
  • Experience with industry‑specific software for network sizing and system design.
  • Experience in datacenters and industrial facilities.
  • Understanding of technical concepts such as redundancy, control, and system integration.
  • Familiarity with CDE management (Common Data Environment).
  • Coordinating work of junior designers.
  • Deep understanding of the BIM process.
  • Independent and structured working style.
  • Flexibility to deal with challenging projects.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and coordinate projects.
  • Languages: German C1, English B2.

Good to have

  • 8-12 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP.
  • Generating BoQs from Revit for bids and cost estimates.
  • Technical leadership: Evaluation of candidates with potential to lead small teams, which may be useful for coordinating junior modelers.
  • Italian language skills.
  • Remote work capability (operate autonomously in a distributed environment).
