Head of Medical Affairs
The Head of Medical Affairs will serve as a senior scientific leader within the prescription medicines (Rx) portfolio, providing medical expertise, strategic direction, and high-level oversight of all medical activities related to Rx products. This role includes direct management of a team of Medical Advisors and close cross-functional collaboration to ensure scientific excellence, regulatory compliance, and effective support for the company’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary source of medical expertise in the Rx area for internal stakeholders (Medical, Regulatory, Market Access, Marketing, Commercial, R&D) and for external partners such as healthcare professionals and scientific institutions.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Medical Advisors, ensuring effective workload planning, capability building, and high performance.
- Oversee the development and execution of medical strategies, medical plans, and scientific communication for the Rx therapeutic portfolio.
- Ensure high medical-scientific standards, ethical conduct, and compliance with all regulations governing Rx promotion and interactions with HCPs.
- Supervise the review and approval of promotional materials intended for healthcare professionals
- Provide scientific guidance for product lifecycle management, new data generation, and evidence-based support for market access and regulatory initiatives.
- Monitor and interpret international medical guidelines, clinical data, and therapeutic trends relevant to assigned product areas.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support the development of clinical strategies, medical education programs, and advisory board meetings.
- Represent the company at medical congresses, scientific meetings, and internal/external training events.
- Oversee team performance through objective setting, ongoing feedback, mid-year reviews, and annual evaluations.
Requirements
- University degree in Medicine or Pharmacy; a postgraduate medical or scientific degree will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs roles within the pharmaceutical industry, with a strong focus on prescription medicines.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing Medical Advisors or similar medical-scientific teams.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations, compliance requirements, and standards for Rx promotional and scientific activities.
- Proven ability to translate complex clinical data into clear, accurate, and compliant medical communication.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
- Strong leadership presence, scientific integrity, and strategic thinking.
