The Head of Financial Settlements will lead and manage the financial settlement operations across multiple regions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial transactions with merchants, payment service providers, and financial institutions. This role is crucial in overseeing settlement processes, optimizing reconciliation workflows, implementing financial technologies, and mitigating risks associated with payment processing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fintech, payments, or banking, with a strong background in financial controls, compliance, and team leadership.

What will you be doing?

Settlement Operations Management:

  1. Oversee financial settlements with merchants, payment service providers, and financial institutions across multiple regions.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of transactions related to end-to-end transaction processing.
  3. Monitor cash flow related to settlements, ensuring optimal liquidity management and forecasting.
  4. Develop and refine settlement processes to enhance efficiency and minimize operational risks.
  5. Constant control, monitoring and evaluation of processes, SLAs and deliverables.
  6. Analysis and monitoring of KPIs; identifying business/operational risks and opportunities and build mitigation plans.

Compliance & Risk:

  1. Ensure adherence to local and international financial regulations, including PSD2, AML, and GDPR, as well as compliance with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard, etc.).
  2. Lead audits related to financial settlements and collaborate with internal and external auditors.
  3. Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with settlements, implementing necessary controls and corrective measures.
  4. Work closely with other functions to ensure compliance and proper risk mitigation.

Technology & Process Optimization:

  1. Drive automation and digital transformation initiatives within settlement processes to enhance accuracy and reduce manual effort.
  2. Collaborate with IT and product teams to enhance payments and reconciliation systems, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  3. Implement data analytics and reporting tools to improve financial transparency and decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  1. Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, and Accounting teams to align financial settlements with business objectives.
  2. Manage relationships with payment processors, banks, and financial partners to optimize settlement agreements and service levels.
  3. Act as the key point of contact for regulatory bodies and industry organizations regarding financial settlement matters.
  4. Act as an enabler to business growth.
  5. Represent the company in the relationship with Clients and Partners.

Leadership & Team Development:

  1. Lead and mentor a team of financial settlement professionals, ensuring continuous development and performance improvement.
  2. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration within the settlement team.
  3. Develop and implement training programs to enhance technical skills and regulatory knowledge within the team.

Who are we looking for?

  1. Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. 5+ years of experience in financial settlements, reconciliation, or payment operations, preferably in fintech, payments, or banking.
  3. Proven track record as a leader of financial-oriented team with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  4. Strong understanding of payment processing, acquiring, and card scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, etc.).
  5. Knowledge of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management in the payments industry.
  6. Proficiency in financial systems, ERP platforms, and reconciliation tools.
  7. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong focus on execution and results.
  9. Advanced level of English and Polish.
  10. Professional certifications such as CPA or CFA are a plus.
