Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Engineering who will lead and develop iChoosr’s Engineering organization and ensure we can deliver high-quality software, reliably and efficiently, as we scale. You will be responsible for the effectiveness of our Engineering teams and for establishing the practices, standards, and technical foundations that enable predictable delivery and continuous improvement.

In this role, you lead the Engineering organisation, including Software Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and the Solution Architect, and you own engineering effectiveness, hiring, onboarding, and professional development. You guide talent paths and ensure we have the right capabilities in place for today’s needs and tomorrow’s growth.

We are in the middle of an exciting replatforming journey. Our Engineering organisation is actively working on replacing our legacy platform with a modern, scalable architecture that better supports our business and long-term ambitions. As Head of Engineering, you play a key role in guiding this transition: balancing ongoing delivery with platform renewal, overseeing the gradual decommissioning of the legacy platform (New Horizons), and ensuring continuity, quality, and clarity for teams and stakeholders throughout the process.

You set the bar for technical quality across our platforms, establishing software engineering practices that help teams deliver securely, sustainably, and with confidence. You also own capacity planning and team allocation across initiatives, ensuring engineering capacity is deployed where it creates the most value.

Together with the Head of Product & Design, you form two sides of the same coin: where Product & Design ensures we build the right things, Engineering ensures we build them right. Neither can succeed without the other, which is why close collaboration between these roles is essential.

You will report to our Chief Product & Technology Officer and work closely with product, design, data, technical security, architecture, and business stakeholders. As a leader, you will focus on developing high-performing teams, enabling autonomy, and continuously improving engineering practices, quality, and delivery maturity in a rapidly evolving organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the international Engineering team (20 colleagues, including Engineering Managers, Tech Leads and the Solution Architect), fostering a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Own team effectiveness: set clear expectations, create feedback loops, and use metrics to improve delivery performance and collaboration.
• Hire, retain, and grow engineering talent; define clear talent paths, coaching structures, and professional development opportunities.
• Establish and maintain software engineering standards and practices across the SDLC, documentation, testing, reliability, and security.
• Ensure predictable delivery while continuously improving engineering maturity, processes, and tooling.
• Own engineering capacity planning and allocate Engineers across initiatives to maximize impact and ensure stakeholder value.
• Oversee the eventual decommissioning of our legacy platform, ensuring a controlled transition and continuity of service.
• Manage stakeholder relationships across the business and ensure engineering priorities, dependencies, and risks are transparent and well managed.
• Partner closely with Product & Design to align roadmaps, priorities, and outcomes, ensuring we build the right things and build them right.
• Drive operational excellence across the engineering organization, including incident management, reliability improvements, and continuous integration and delivery practices.

Your expertise

• Proven leadership experience in a senior engineering role (Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, or similar) in a product-led, scaling environment.
• Experience leading Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders (e.g., Tech Leads, Architects) and building high-performing, autonomous teams.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices (cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, observability, security, testing, and agile delivery).
• Track record of improving team effectiveness and delivery performance through processes, metrics, and coaching.
• Experience with platform engineering practices and an ability to set standards that support reliable delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management skills; able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Comfortable balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term technical health and platform sustainability.
• Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
