For our client - a leading international banking group - we are supporting the build-up and expansion of a strategic Controls & Governance function in Poland. This is a newly created senior leadership role, offering full ownership, decision‑making authority, and the opportunity to shape a critical control environment during a period of significant transformation.

This role plays a key part in ensuring operational stability, regulatory readiness, and strong governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, build, and scale the Controls & Governance function in Poland.
  • Act as a senior leader within a global structure, with accountability for operational controls, governance, and delivery.
  • Drive change management during large‑scale transitions and process migrations from other countries.
  • Strengthen and oversee the operational control framework across key banking processes.
  • Ensure readiness for upcoming regulatory and supervisory requirements, including critical testing and reviews planned.
  • Establish effective governance, escalation, reporting, and decision‑making frameworks.
  • Partner closely with local business leaders and senior international stakeholders.
  • Represent the function in interactions with regulators and internal governance forums.
  • Lead process optimisation, automation, and simplification initiatives, including the use of modern technologies (e.g. GenAI).
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor senior leaders and teams in a fast‑growing environment.

Requirements

  • Extensive senior‑level experience in controls, governance, compliance, operational risk or control office within banking or regulated financial services.
  • Proven track record of leading organisations through transformation, scale‑up, or structural change.
  • Strong knowledge of EU regulatory frameworks, including:
  • consumer protection,
  • credit and credit control regulations,
  • investment regulations,
  • emerging regulatory areas (e.g. crypto assets, GenAI).
  • Experience in interactions with regulators or supervisory bodies.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, international environment.
