Global Defense Engineering is responsible for fielding solutions that help defend HSBC against a wide range of threats to the business as well as its customers, clients, partners, and staff. The team works in concert, with partner teams across HSBC, to implement novel defensive capabilities that are effective and adaptable against a constantly evolving threat landscape. The function operates under the vision: “Enabling HSBC to be safely successful everywhere the firm chooses to do business". The Head of Cloud cryptography reports to the Head of cryptography.

What you’ll do

• Set the strategy for the safe use of cryptography in the cloud. 
• Consult and mandate patterns for safe use of cloud-based cryptography solutions. 
• Set the requirements for key management - Ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. 
• Aid the business and technical units in selecting appropriate cryptographic solutions for cloud deployments. 
• Analyse current cloud cryptography deployments and sets the direction of travel for improvements to compliance and strategic goals. 
• Integrate cloud cryptography requirements into broader cryptography technical controls. 
• Manage the relationships with cloud service providers and the roadmap for cloud cryptography solutions groupwide.
• Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on strategy for cloud cryptography and roadmaps for CSP developments.

What you need to have to succeed in this role

• Bachelors or master’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related field. Directly related work experience may be substituted for a degree.
• Demonstrated experience in information security, with a focus on cryptographic services. 
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing cryptography solutions in a large organization, preferably within the financial sector or aerospace/defense industry. 
• Experience with HSMs, cloud implementation, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Strong understanding of cryptographic principles, algorithms, and protocols. 
• Experience with cloud-based solutions and integration with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure). 
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to cryptography.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
