Global HSE Specialist on R&D and Engineering Ops – BU Transformers (f/m/d)

Join Hitachi Energy as a Global HSE Specialist in the BU Transformers R&D and Engineering Operations department. The role serves as the primary bridge between R&D, Engineering, and Quality Functions and the HSE Function, providing expert guidance on Health, Safety, and Environment matters, sharing best practices and ensuring effective implementation of improvement actions and projects.

The specialist will focus on hazard identification, risk assessment, and integration of safety considerations throughout the development and operation lifecycle. Additionally, the role analyzes HSE incidents, coordinates lessons learned, defines and monitors improvement actions, and supports HSE training for projects involving Global Product Groups (GPGs) and Engineering.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Act as a bridge between HSE and R&D, Engineering, and Quality, ensuring effective knowledge transfer, corrective actions, and continuous improvement following incidents or gaps.
  • Support BU Transformers HSE programs in a transversal manner, integrating R&D, Engineering, Quality and HSE output on improvements and learnings.
  • Maintain a practical, pragmatic approach to problem solving, closely collaborating with BU units and simplifying demands after assessments.
  • Drive and promote a strong HSE culture and performance, acting as a liaison with different departments.
  • Assume an expert role in the HSE field.
  • Support the HSE management system, including relevant documents and processes.
  • Drive initiatives and follow up on HSE targets.
  • Train, coach and support managers and employees on HSE actions and compliance.
  • Analyze and use global HSE performance data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international HSE requirements and standards.
  • Contribute to assessing and improving BU Transformers HSE Management Systems.

Your background

  • University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Engineering or a related field.
  • University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Occupational Health and Safety, HSE or a related field.
  • Proven experience in risk assessment, management systems, process improvement, MOC, auditing and incident investigation.
  • 8+ years experience in HSE roles.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all organizational levels.
  • Fluent in English. Other languages are an advantage.
  • Competent in ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001.
  • Competent in international HSE legislation.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive cultural change.
