ABB Traction Division is a recognized leader in onboard propulsion technologies that drive innovation in rail, bus, and industrial vehicle electrification. Location

This role is open globally, but location is set in Switzerland (Turgi) or Poland (Aleksandrow Lodzki). The work model is hybrid. Please note that the position requires being physically present at the designated site at least 2–3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for the Category Management of Traction Transformers, Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) and Train Control Monitoring Systems (TCMS) used in the Converters and Traction Batteries produced by ABB’s Traction division globally. You will support the strategic needs of all locations of division Traction by defining the sourcing strategy, securing a suitable supplier base, negotiating pricing and contractual conditions and initiating cost reduction initiatives. You will collaborate closely with colleagues from Product Management, Engineering, Supplier Quality Management and Operative Procurement.

• Planning and implementing sourcing strategies in line with the business strategy and ensuring that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements.
• Identifying cost reduction or cost avoidance potential and triggering the necessary activities to materialize the potential savings in TCO, by working together with Product Management and/or Engineering to (re-)evaluate the design & cost drivers and thereby challenge the suppliers.
• Ensuring identification, investigation, and selection of appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability) in collaboration with the relevant functions (Supplier Quality Management, Product Management, Engineering) and in accordance with company policies.
• Negotiating pricing and sourcing frame agreements with main suppliers and periodically renewing price lists.
• Escalation level in case of supplier performance issues (availability, quality)
• Managing the relationship with the suppliers as well as the relevant internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering, with proven exposure to commercial topics (e.g., cost breakdown analysis, roles in sales and/or sourcing).
• Strong technical understanding of transformers and/or operational knowledge of transformer manufacturing, including detailed insight into cost drivers.
• Expertise in traction transformers is highly preferred.
• Result-oriented, with excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills, and a track record in stakeholder management.
• Collaborative mindset, enjoying teamwork to achieve optimal total cost of ownership.
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Fluency in English; German is a plus.
• You hold a valid work permit/Visa for Switzerland or Poland.
