Job Summary:
The Fire Protection Engineer will be a part of the Mechanical Engineering group. You will be preparing fire hazards analyses, technical reports and supporting studies, sizing fire protection equipment and piping, performing hydraulic calculations, and performing calculations. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in process and fire protection system design and will be capable of developing fire hazards analysis design documents that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design. The ideal candidate will be familiar with International Building and Fire Codes and NFPA codes and standards.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in the design and development of FireProtection structures, systems, and components in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements
- Assists in performing building and fire code analyses and interpretations
- Prepares technical reports, studies, and design documentation, calculations using engineering software, and specifications for complex fire protection equipment supporting systems
- Applies principles of fire safety in the development and maintenance of the fire hazards analysis
- Assists in implementing programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA and Life Safety Code requirements
- Supports the development of the fire protection components of the authorization basis documents and other safety submittals
- Provides technical guidance in the development of fire protection equivalencies to NFPA codes and standards
- Provides technical guidance in the review of engineering analyses and engineering judgments for alternative fire barrier systems, opening protectives, and penetration firestops
- Interfaces with internal and external customers, as required, for the design, installation, and testing of Fire Protection Systems
- Interfaces with other disciplines to provide feedback, direction, and validation of engineering and design efforts as related to Fire Protection
- Maintains current knowledge of all building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance
- Support construction, startup, and operations on an as-needed basis
Education and Experience Requirements:
Level 1
- Requires a bachelors degree in Fire Protection (or International Equivalent) Engineering
Level 2
- Requires a bachelors degree in Fire Protection (or International Equivalent) Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be authorised to live and work in Poland without sponsorship
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the fire, life safety, and building codes and fire protection engineering design principles
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Strong bilingual proficiency in English and Polish language documents
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience as a Fire Protection Engineer at a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility with a strong background in fire suppression and fire alarm system design and fire hazards analysis preparation
- Prior work experience on a large-scale project and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments
