Role Overview
The Engineering Project Leader at Aptiv serves as the technical expert responsible for solving cross‑competency issues within Engineering. They act as the single point of contact for customers and the Project Management organization to deliver all engineering activities and deliverables on time, cost, and quality.
Responsibilities include collaboration with the Engineering Program Leader, supervising sub‑teams, managing engineering budgets, coordinating product hand‑over, preparing reviews, mitigating risks, and ensuring manufacturability, among others.
Product and Projects
Working with Volvo Cars and other European commercial vehicle OEMs, the team develops Android‑based infotainment, Driver Monitoring Systems, and radar ADAS technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain compliant engineering deliverables timing for hardware, validation, software, and systems in collaboration with Program Management.
- Ensure engineering execution follows standard work and best practices and compliance with organization policies.
- Own customer problem troubleshooting and drive corrective action.
- Coordinate and deliver product solution hand‑over to customers at milestones.
- Participate in Big Room Planning, Program Iteration Demo, and Retro.
- Provide engineering budget input for BBP cycle, including resource demand, capital expense, materials, and credits.
- Own the collection, consolidation, and agreement to engineering spend against approved budgets for assigned projects.
- Manage BOM cost and related technical topics.
- Prepare and execute Design Reviews & Peer Reviews, ensuring the Design Review workbook complies with PDP process.
- Maintain the Technical Risk Register: identify risks, scope changes, evaluate, rate, action plans, change points, and manage contingency plans.
- Ensure engineering competencies consider design for manufacturability (DFA, DFM).
- Approve start/stop/change/sign‑off of engineering activity on project/component‑level work packages.
Your Background and Required Skills
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering with relevant experience.
- Preferred 10+ years in electronic control system development, ideally in automotive.
- Knowledge and experience of product development processes.
- Proficiency in technical reporting and summary.
- Ability to work in a virtual team environment.
- Ability to network & collaborate with multiple stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
- Team‑oriented and self‑driven.
- Planning and organizing skills.
- Experience in customer contact.
- Honesty in relationships with company, clients, and co‑operators.
- Understanding and application of servant leadership.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
