Main Responsibilities
- Directs and controls the back-end technologies of a platform/product.
- Leads the recruitment and onboarding process for their teams, hires/fires as necessary, coaches teams and individuals to grow talents.
- Manages back-end team leads and possibly senior engineers through periodic feedback, one-to-one sessions, performance evaluations, and development plans (IDP) for direct reports.
- Participates in and leads agile processes and scrum/kanban ceremonies, ensuring adherence to agile rules.
- Leads platform/product development without frequent involvement in writing and reviewing code.
- Improves quality by identifying technical debt and architectural/policy improvements; optimizes system design and process flows.
- Manages resources within teams, rotates people as necessary, and balances workload across teams.
- Implements latest technological innovations to advance the company’s technology and products.
- Creates new guidelines and improves existing standards; ensures domain knowledge is well documented.
- Participates in and drives engineering activities that benefit the broader organization beyond their own team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- 8+ years of backend development experience; 2+ years of managing engineers or leads.
- Experience with Kubernetes and containers, cloud-based development, infrastructure and system design, and microservices; SQL and NoSQL databases; agile methodology (ideally Scrum).
- Data structures, coding patterns, and algorithms knowledge.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, message brokers, third-party integrations, code/peer reviews, CI/CD, secure development, information security, and test-driven development.
- Strong constructive feedback, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- English (Upper-intermediate).
