EIB Trainee - Inspectorate General Directorate - Evaluation Division - based in Luxembourg

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

Possible extension up to 6 months if required by University.

Nationality requirements: Only applicants from EU Member States or candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine) are considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the traineeship will not be considered. Please submit no more than three traineeship applications; only the first three will be considered.

Objective of the traineeship: The trainee will support the Evaluation Division in the Inspectorate General (IG/EV) of the EIB in carrying out desk-research and other evaluative activities for 2026. Initial tasks involve delivering background research papers for upcoming evaluations such as health infrastructure support, EU Global Gateway strategy, EU municipalities, Transport Lending Policy, and EIF microfinance activity. Depending on workload, the trainee may also support portfolio reviews, surveys, interviews, and other data collection tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare policy and literature reviews on the themes targeted by IG/EV’s upcoming evaluations or studies.
  • Contribute to thematic evaluation or study components (portfolio review, data collection via surveys or interviews, data analysis).
  • Support the logistics of evaluation processes (organise stakeholder interactions, data collection and analysis).
  • Support IG/EV’s outreach activities (knowledge sharing within and outside the EIB).

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or university degree in Economics, Finance, Social Sciences, Political Sciences or Engineering.
  • Familiarity with evaluation (e.g. specialised courses).
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience with a variety of Social Science research methods.
  • Excellent writing skills in English; distinct advantage for clear concise texts.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU languages is an advantage.
